Does "Ils" (Them) Region 2 really have English subtitles?
I've read in a few places that some regions of Ils does not have english subtitles despite saying that it does.
Does anyone own the Region 2 version and know the case? Also, is it definitely it's theatrical aspect, and not fullscreen? I've read varying info online.
I've actually never owned a region free player until this week, so I have a question. If I bought this movie in Region 2, which is PAL, would there be a noticeable "speed up" on the movie, or is it ever so slight, something you wouldn't even notice? I just don't want everyone to sound like they're slightly inhaling helium the whole time. I know that's a silly question, but I've never seen a PAL version of a film before and have heard of the speed up

First off, welcome to the land of we the region-free...and my condolences to your wallet.
Secondly, I've watched a fair share of PAL DVDs and PAL speed-up has never been an issue for me personally. Keep in mind though that I'm rather casual when it comes to technical A/V aspects of cinema. I'd suppose if you were overly familiar with a film and then watched a PAL version you might notice it, but otherwise I'm guessing it shouldn't be an issue.
As for the DVD of "Ils", Region 2 PAL (note: Japan is R2 NTSC) covers a lot of ground...for example there is R2 UK, R2 France, R2 Italy, R2 Spain, etc., etc. I suppose you are asking about either the French or UK release. I don't recall which one I have, but dvdcompare.net indicates that both are OAR and English-subbed (I think I have the French release). There was also a R3 Korean release if I remember right. Anyway, hope this helps, and I'm sure someone wiser than I will chime in in regard to your PAL speed-up query.

Just a heads-up, according to the upcoming DVD Chopping List section over at fangoria.com, the U.S. R1 release is slated for March 25th courtesy of Dark Sky.
Also, "Ils" received a Thai DVD release that appears to have been English-friendly (though I can't 100% confirm either that or the OAR question).
