Purple Noon - any good versions out there?
the r1 is 1:66:1 non-anamorphic. Anyone know of a proper 16*9 version that is english friendly and with a good transfer?

Not at this point, as far as I know the Studio Canal port will be offered only as part of the Screen Icons collection. Given the cheap pre-order price though you should not wait at all.
