La Mome / La Vie En Rose DVD?

I know it is really early, but I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this on DVD in France yet. I loved this film and my mother in law loves Edith Piaf and I can't wait to get it!

That would be correct...it is very early to talk about a release date. So far I have seen only one post on another French forum suggesting a late September date but it looks and sounds like a speculation.

This being said I can guarantee you that the inevitable disc WILL NOT be English-friendly as TF1 are the distribs.

Will let you know when a date is released.

Fnac.com lists a 2 DVD collector's edition with a release date of August 23. As Pro-B said, since the disc is being released through TF1, I highly doubt that subtitles will be included.

According to the review at DVDRama.net, the disc DOES include English subtitles!

Ha...I have this coming in the mail, and I have been proven wrong. This being said, if this film is released in Hi-Def it should look superb.

It is a beautiful film. I'm trying to find it reasonably priced somewhere, which I don't think will happen

The price for a new release in France is around 20-25 €,you should wait a few months for a better price.
I wrote a little help last year to use a comparator for french DVDs :

Well, if there is no super-fancy set I may just wait for the R1 release, which should hit around oct-nov. We'll see, I wanted to get a fancy set as a gift for my Mother In Law who is a huge Edith Piaf nut, we saw it together at AFI Dallas in March

Opening will release next week a 2 DVD digipack "Edith Piaf : Les best of de ses concerts - Le documentaire sur sa carrière", not english friendly, but the first disc shows Edith in concert (in black&white or in color). The second disc is a documentary about her career.
Audio is in DD 5.1.

Thanks for the info re: english subtitles on La Mome.

I was waiting to hear that. Just ordered from Amazon.fr.

Pro-B, could you please confirm when you receive your copy that it definitely
does have english subs.

Thanks

Good movie...on the French (or Swiss?) DVD, they don't sub all the songs she sings which is annoying, because anything spoken or sung should always be subbed. I don't know if that was done in the Theatrical USA release as well.

Are you referring to the Blu-ray release? I am not totally sure by reading the thread. If not, could you please comment on its quality in respects to the a/v quality and extras. Also, are you aware if it is the same print used for the R1 release. I would probably just rather get the R1 if all the regions are pretty much the same.

Thank you very much as usual.

Hello Amon,

No, my post above is regarding the SDVD. I do not own the BR (but will regardless of region-coding as I shall have a B-region BR player shortly).

This being said, I just watched the R1 by PictureHouse/HBO/WB and the transfer is superb. We have been given the extended 141 minutes cut and it is not PAL-affected. It is a progressive, native NTSC transfer. This was a big issue for me as I most definitely noticed the higher pitch on the French disc (i own quite a few of Edith's CDs) and especially during the final scene where she has the best performance I was quite annoyed. This isn't/wasn't the case with the R1.

To sum it all up I am very, very, very happy with our, the R1 version, disc. I also played the film upconverted as well, if you are interested to know, and once again I must note that it just looks fabulous, great transfer. The only extra on our disc is the interview/commentary with Mrs. Cotillard but I will be giving this release a very high mark (actually I am extremely pleased with PictureHouse and their decision to run their products via WB/New Line).

Finally, it is worth mentioning that PictureHouse have provided excellent subtitles: they are in the European font, mid-size to smaller, white, and the actual translation is top-notch (I was specifically paying attention to how they translated it).

Anyhow...I am very happy with this disc.

Ciao,
Pro-B

when i saw this at the charles, the only song that had subs was the last song at the end of the movie. Anyone know if the region 1 version has subs for the songs.

I may be minority here but honestly think that subs are not needed. Some of the texts are quite straightforward and hardly that revealing. The final act for example would have been very tasteless had they included mandatory subs. Perhaps optional subs for the songs would have been an acceptable compromise but frankly, as it is, the DVD is just perfect. I don't see a reason why one should not opt for the R1 disc.
