"1.99: Movie Collection Orig. Director's Extend Version" DVD-Has Anyone Seen This?

I came across this 2003 collection of shorts quite by accident: 1.99: MOVIE COLLECTION ORIGINAL DIRECTORS EXTEND VERSION on the following webpage:
http://www.asianmoviedvd.com/index.p...oducts_id=1285

If this doesn't link up correctly just do: http://www.asianmoviedvd.com

Anyway they have a great picture of this now oop dvd. It has a series of one minute shorts by the following directors, Teddy Chen, Tsui Hark, Stephen Chow, Johnny To, Fruit Chan, and Won Kai-Wai. (Why haven't I ever heard of this compilation before now?????) They price it, but then they say its not available.

Anyone own this dvd? Know where to obtain it elsewhere? Hmmmmm.

I don't recall that there was more than one version, but I have the vcd version. Haven't watched it in a few years. It's a mixed bag but captures a moment in HK history and a tribute to how the entertainment industry rallies quickly in a time of crisis.

[edit]Checked my notes, the original DVD did not include the WKW film, which the vcd did. Maybe it was added to later editions?

The DVD contains some "directors cut" versions of some of the shorts, which are imperceptibly longer and do nothing to improve them.

The DVD also contains some special features. One is a speech given by Eric Tsang, which goes on at length, and is difficult to stay awake through. Another, more interesting, is a sort of "making of" short, which gives some sense of how Hong Kong actors were coping with SARS during the crisis. The answer: not too well. A scene with Sandra Ng shows how fanatically she cleaned every surface she may have come in touch with in a paranoid frenzy. While watching these scenes, I was reminded of how AIDS is still poorly understood and depicted only in the most derogatory terms in Hong Kong cinema, and that has been around for a long time. Of course, SARS would be given similar treatment, at least at first.

[edit2] hmm, watched my copy last night and couldn't find the WKW clip, it does have the extras described above though, both the selected long versions and the 'making of/interviews'.

Thanks dleedlee for all the information and sources. I just ordered a copy of this film from Edaymovie.com. I also came up with a great link which also reviews the film with some great screen shots! Those interested can go to:http://www.sogoodreviews.com/reviews/199.htm
