Death Note: The Movies

Japan released this month "Death Note: The Complete Series", a boxset of the 2 feature films from 2006, with a bonus disc of extras, and a CD soundtrack.

Unfortunately, for 6000 Yen plus, and no english subtitles.

Kam & Ronson Hong Kong released "Death Note: The Complete Series" as a 3 disc set, 2 main films, plus the bonus DVD, adding DTS-ES and English subtitles, including the bonus material.

cdwow has it for a very good price, less than $30 for the set.

there's a korean set that looks just like the japanese one - with the addition of subs of course - which also looks nice. the films are very commercial in tone and approach, so if you're looking for something like that, they're out there... perfectly missable for most, perhaps, as it doesn't really match the kind of thing people are often talking about - still, i'm kind of tired of the picture being a little simple and biased towards treating things as novelties, so any other dimension to the choices helps a great deal. ive seen the first one, need to watch the second - 140 minutes though.

I agree with you, the korean set is the best alternative "collector's set" to get.

Looks like the Korean Version is as good as the Japanese Version

yes. i know it sounds odd. thing is, this doesn't really match most of what you see people gagging for in terms of japanese cinema on DVD - but, if you want a change, a commercial approach (and clearly at that) then its worth seeing.
don't be fooled by the packaging, the manga or anime's quality, there's a cheapo HK dual-package out too.

Highly recommended! No wonder why it was a boxoffice hit in Japan, Korea, HongKong, Singapore

Korean sets usually don't have english subs on the extras and more and more often HK sets do. Does this korean set have english subs on the extras?

manicsounds 04-09-07 08:51 PM

According to DVDasian, it doesn't have any for the extras, but let's see from people who ordered it.

For the Hong Kong disc, the grammar is quite alright, but a few spelling and caption errors like "Bastard!" was written "Bastard?"

And when a girl was talking, she was to say ,
"I'll be the main character in an upcoming movie"

but ends up spelled
"I'll be the man character in an upcoming movie"

As I get it, the Korean set is a LE. Anyone knows how may copies were made?

i've heard that the taiwanese box set has a packaging similar to the japanese and korean box sets.

i already own the Hong Kong box set and despite the chunky packaging, i'm quite satisfied with it.
