R2 Germany Must Haves?
 

I'm about to place an order for the Das Perfum HD-DVD at amazon.de, but would like to make the most of the shipping charge. Are there any other exclusive or superior German DVDs that can be recommended?

I think Almodovar's High Heels is only available as a German disc.

If you like British comedy, you can also get all three series of Smack the Pony.

Deranged (the US DVD of this good movie is cut)

The Japanese movie 19. Only DVD outside Japan and it features English subtitles.

And just won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar! Does the German DVD have English subtitles? Any reviews on the quality?

It is not English friendly and that is why I never posted the news. The quality of the actual disc though is very good. R1 should be here early summer.

I think the German edition of The Days of the Condor may be the best, as it has a commentary by director Sidney Pollack.

The Keanu Reeves classic "The Night Before" is available only in Germany in a great Widescreen Print.

Also, Misfits of Science complete series is a Germany only release

I read a review of the Australian DVD and the transfer got good marks and it comes with an audio commentary. It is part of the Director's Suite DVD series.

I just wish the US/Australia exchange rate was better right now.

If you're a Brit-comedy fan, both complete series of the all-girl sketch comedy show SMACK THE PONY (feat. Sally Phillips & Sarah Alexander) are available only in German pressings.

Kinowelt's Johnny Guitar disc has apparently been bested by a newer Spanish disc from Paramount, but it's still superior to the Universal R2. Here's the DVD Beaver comparison.
