Children of Men (Region-3)

CD-WOW has a Children of Men HK region 3 ready to ship this week. Anyone else tempted by this. I haven't seen it yet but most of the reviews have been real positive.

Spoiler:
Some nice subtle FX but apart from that it's all a bit dull. There are far better films made much more cheaply.

I saw it theatrically and I really liked it. It's not a message movie, but more of a mainstream film with its message kept to the background. So I guess it depends on what you like.
But, it's one of the most fabulously directed films in quite a while. And the complex long take cinematography is brilliant and a refreshing change from the usual 5 edits every 2 seconds during anything vaguely approaching an action scene.
It hits R2 dvd in february.

I think Children of Men has been under-rated. It is a film made in the UK by a Mexican, and shows a UK seen though an outsider's eye. It is very political, as it projects into the future the logical consequence of the attitudes towards foreigners and asylum seekers the we now see expressed in the popular press and by some politicians.

I blame Clive Owen. Darn fine actor (good in this too) but he's only ever looked good on one poster:

R3 edition has been pushed back to 1/25 per CDwow. But, it could be that CDwow has internally pushed back the date.....cause the R2 version, which is in stock at Amazon and Benson's, won't be in stock until 1/18 at CDwow...at least that was their est. yesterday.

CDJapan just put up a listing for a "Premium Edition" R2J disc:

I sent another email to CDwow asking about the R2 copy of Children of Men....again they said they experienced another delay in receipt of this title and they have not received any copies at all...zero....nada. In the meanwhile, AmazonUK, Benson's World, Diabolik and Xploitedcinema all have this title in stock. I ordered this title when they had it priced at $15, now it's $22 or so. I wonder if they are trying to weed through this possible "price mistake" by delaying shipment to the pre-orders? I usually don't buy into "this company screwing us" theories...but when small niche marketers can get this title, there is no reason why a larger etailer would experience delays.
Update: Canceled my cdwow order and placed an order with Tony at xploitedcinema.

We were having a dinner and movie night on the 27th for a group of friends. We wanted to treat everyone to this film....espcially since many wanted to go to the theaters to see it. So it's a special occasion. But, when you consider, it would cost us $18 + a babysitter (3 hours at $10 per hr) the cost is less than going to the theater. At least that is my justification.
