Vidocq U.S. DVD Release

FYI

By accident I just noticed that Vidocq is being released here (finally) on Jan. 2nd.

Although its title here is called "Dark Portals: The Chronicles of Vidocq".

Cool movie with some great visuals! Glad that more people will get a chance to see it. I won't be buying it again as my Canadian DVD is quite nice with some solid extras.

But the Canadian seville SE version is a PAL-NTSC transfer that looks awful. Hopefully the US release is a real NTSC transfer

it looked awful? That's wierd, it looked pretty crisp and clear to me on my Canadian DVD. I thought it was the first good-looking movie shot on video, actually. Isn't Vidocq one of the first action moviesshot on video? Before that, it was indie or documentary movies. I'm not even sure if it was shot on HD-Video (such as Attack of the Clones), but certainly video.

CanDVDFan is 100% correct!!

The Canadian DVD suffers from a horrible interlaced transfer with heavy "ghosting". The release is a direct port of the TF1 disc.

Ciao,

Actually there was a shot on video action glut back in the early 90s. But Vidocq probably does look better than these. Vista Street was probably one of the worst offenders with titles like Street Angels, Death Flight To Istanbul, High Kicks, etc....

How come we have more and more USA/Canadian releases in this forum? It's not an international DVD but just a non-American film so it should be in the main forum.

At this rate it'll mainly be dumb Hollywood shit that's in the main forum. Wait a minute...

I believe this film was one of the first to be shot digitally.
