sending a homemade DVD from US to Poland

Help!! I'm not even sure if this is a stupid question. I am sending a DVD from the US to Poland. It was recorded on HI 8 tape and burned to a DVD. Will it work it Poland? Is there truly a difference in the DVD players in Europe and those in the US? Help!!

As long as the person in Poland has a DVD player that is capable of playing DVD-/+R media and can play NTSC (the US video standard, I believe its PAL in Poland) DVDs then I think it should be fine. I think if you burnt the DVD yourself then there is probably no region coding on it.

Otherwise you would also need to make sure the person in Poland's DVD player is capable of playing Region 1 DVDs. I have noticed huge compatibility issues (even in the US) with DVDs burnt on +R media, so I would recommend -R media if possible for better compatibility.

So in summary, check with the person in Poland if their player supports the following:

* Plays recordable media
* Plays NTSC DVDs
* Is Region Free

Better yet, if you can get the make/model of their player then you can go here and see what it supports:

Poland's DVD players are the same as the rest of Europe's ie cheap, play anything and are almost always multiregion. Not that the region matters this time.

The problem is with the NTSC with their TVs. Again though almost all European DVD players will play NTSC as PAL which will be fine for the oldest of TVs.

And anyway his PC will play any TV system no problem.
