Day of the Beast, Frighteners 4-disc at DVDGo

Just a heads up here. DVDGo.com from Spain is doing a 40% off "most sold titles of the year" sale, and Alex de la Iglesia's El Dia de la Bestia (Day of the Beast) is one of them, which I thought had been out of print for some time. Says 3 to 10 days to ship and is only 6.20 Euro. The disc is non-anamorphic, but it is a special edition with 5.1 sound and English subs on the main feature.

Also listed is the 4-disc version of The Frighteners Collector's Edition for those who also want the theatrical version of the film not have all the extras crammed onto one disc. Only 8.36 Euro.

Alejandro Amenabar's Tesis Collector's Edition is also up (I think this had also gone out of print), and is the best version of the film out there to get with anamorphic picture, 5.1 sound, and English subs on the feature. 6.29 Euro.

They also have an excellent price (€12.56/$16.xx) on Fabián Bielinsky's El Aura. Great movie!

Whoa...I just noticed Fragile (Fragiles) is also up there, the latest movie from Jaume Balagueró (aside from the TV episode of the Spanish masters of horror series) who has done Darkness and The Nameless. I didn't even know this was on DVD already.

Cosmic Bus 10-03-06 10:53 AM

Fragile wasn't really anything remarkable, although it's worth seeing if you're a fan of his (which I am, to an extent). The tone and style are identical to his previous films, so you at least know what you're getting.

And since you mentioned it, what was that Spanish series called and is it available on DVD anywhere? I was keeping tabs on the project something like two years ago and never really heard anything about it.

dullboy 10-03-06 02:07 PM

Yeah, I haven't heard anything about the series for awhile either. It's called Peliculas Para No Domir (Films to Keep You Awake), and his entry is titled Para Entrar a Vivir (To Begin Living). The website simply says "coming soon".

The IMDB listing seems to indicate it is completed.

As I haven't registered at DVDgo as of yet, and I've had my eye on the Thesis CE for awhile, what's the shipping charge run for a single disc to the US?

dullboy 10-05-06 08:32 AM

Unfortunately, it's pretty pricey. One to four dvds will cost you 17 euro.

Linn1 10-05-06 11:31 AM

Yep, kills the deal for me.

meritocracy 10-05-06 05:02 PM

Ouch...the search for a reasonable price for this on ebay continues. Thanks dullboy.

Linn1 10-05-06 11:46 PM

Yay!

I just found Day of the Beast for $18 WITH shipping! Life is good!

There was a copy up at Nicheflix's used store, but I guess SOMEBODY bought it already.

Linn1 10-07-06 12:00 AM

That, would be me. :)
