Dragon Tiger Gate

Anyone see this follow up from the director of SPL? I want to see it but wanted to get some opinions here regarding it before buying. Thanks.

yeah, the movie more or less sucked. It has some decent action scenes. So, it's really worth watching once, but it's got some serious filler and bad acting in the movie...

Try http://www.kaijushakedown.com/2006/0..._tiger_ga.html for a great review.

I don't know why people are bashing this movie so much. Sure, it's no SPL, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I like the look of the movie, the sets used on the fight scenes, the comic-book colors. The story may be a little cheesy, but it was still entertaining. Yes, there is a lot of CGI used in the final fight, but not all horrible. The picture looks fantastic and the DTS-ES 6.1 Matrixed audio track is awesome. My favorite fight scene was the Donnie Yen basball field fight.

BTW, the Kaijushakedown review is hilarious...thanks thalion.

The fight scenes were a tad over-the-top, especially the last 1/4 of the movie. As previously stated, it is based on a comic book so it's to be expected and i have to admit, they were fun to watch. However, that last fight scene with Donnie Yen and the main villain could've been shortened by about a dozen floors (or whatever the hell those concrete thingamajigs were).:p
It was cool to see Chen Kuan Tai make an appearance, as with Yuen Wah. Too bad they didn't have any scenes together.

I liked "Sha Po Lang" alot but found "Dragon Tiger Gate" to be disappointing and if I were being generous I'd call it average. I suppose it was reasonably diverting one time through but that's about it. I was forgetting it even before it ended. As mentioned, the baseball field fight scene was pretty good and there were some other passing moments of solid action in some of the earlier fight scenes but I thought it got pretty flat towards the end, and even some of the earlier action was hampered at times by mediocre wirework, etc. The plot and characters/acting did nothing for me. I don't know why but I kept thinking that if the Shaw Bros. were still producing movies then "Dragon Tiger Gate" might be something they would have done (though decidedly a more disposable effort).

Thanks, all. I guess I'll wait til Nicheflix gets it.

I give it 3/5 stars. If you like martial arts fight scene, then it's recommended. It was defintely entertaining. Lets say that I have seen far worse than this movie. The people who tend to bash it are the ones who probably put down all asian movies. Don't expect a masterpiece with this one....but fun to watch.

We all have different opinion and taste...so you can only be the judge for yourself by watching it.

The problem is...

everyone is going in expecting it to be like SPL and it's not the same sort of movie. It's an adaptation of a comic book and plays like that. And a very good adaptation I might add.

BuddhaWake 10-05-06 06:23 PM

I have to agree with Linn here, I thought it was a pretty good adaptation of a comic book in style. Some of those scenes were very imaginative but like the others here I felt that the 2nd half fights suffered from a bit of dragon ball z-ness compared to the more organic ones from the first half of the movie.
