The movie was a nice light tragi-comedy. It got bad reviews probably because critics were expecting a laugh-fest. In fact, this movie is a pretty serious movie, with bits of comedy. It's not even like the heavy LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL in which that was a really funny movie and really sad. In Tiger and the snow, it's more at a same level, a tragi-comedy light - there isn't anything overly dramatic and there isn't any really laugh-out loud scenes. It's just a nice movie about love with the stupidity of war in the background. It's definitely worth seeing, especially if you are a fan of Benigni, Braschi, and Reno. It's interesting to see Benigni play it as straight and serious as much as he can. He sort of reminded me of some of Chaplin's later roles. I still love him best as a full comedy force in THE MONSTER and JOHNNY STECHINNO.

The Hong Kong Region 3 NTSC DVD is pretty good deal for 16 bucks including shipping from yesasia. The anamorphic video is overall nice with some slight flickering and the audio, Italian DTS-ES and DD 5.1 EX is pretty generous and sounded great.
The extras were not bad too - just an unsubtitled deleted scenes and an unsubtitled making of the film. The main extra is an English subtitles featurette about Benigni, Braschi, and Reno with the making of this film in the background. The english subtitles of the movie were pretty good too, with occasional grammar errors.
