I wasn't ordering it. With HD coming out, I'm not buying any more international DVD's that will be a bitch to get rid eventually.
Plus I've had it for quite some time already.

While I appreciate having an offical special edition finally, I had hoped for Fincher to revisit the material. Isn't it poor form this late in the DVD game to recycle everything from the laserdisc?

There's really nothing more that I could have hoped for. And they did it right the first time.
I feel the same way about the Se7en Criterion. I would've preferred they just release that version since the current DVD is missing some great extras...including those outtakes.
And from my viewpoint, I'm glad I got rid of the laserdisc when I did. Made $100 off of it.

Also, think of it from the filmmaker's perspective. If you've already recorded a commentary and interviews and various other materials for a movie, how much more will you have to say about it? I think Fincher is probably more interested in developing his next project than in repeatedly revisiting an old movie he's already covered in depth.

And the outtakes/dailies wouldn't have been created by Criterion and therefore not theirs to license. The only thing they would have had the rights to would have been the commentaries.

What does it matter, anyway? Do you own the Criterion LD? If not, what do you care whether the DVD ports over the same supplements?

I care because i'd rather have it on DVD. I'd prefer to get rid of my laserdiscs rather than hang on to 2 different versions.
It doesn't so much matter to me because I made a 2 disc SE of this on DVD a long time ago.

Received the R3 today. Its cool because it came with 2 different covers one with the Taiwan letters and one with all English. So it looks just like any Region 1 dvd. It also has the same cover as all the R2 special editions except this is NTSC. I haven't played it yet so I'll post back later as to how the picture quality looks.
