Help with Amazon UK link to joyo.com in China???

This LINK
is currently up at Amazon.co.uk
It seems to be some sort of (Mainland?) China based site?

There doesn't seem to be an English-friendly interface (which makes me wonder why Amazon UK is even linking to it?) and Babelfish isn't helping much with the translations.
Does anyone know anything about how to go about ordering from here? Shipping costs? Is it exclusively UK or is there delivery to the US also?

Thanks for any help.

This is direct to the dvds

CSI's for 7 bucks is great!

Oh yeah, try this. Go to google and cut and paste the url in the search. You should be given the option to translate.

I went to cnave.com (by doing the above) and it translated it for me. :)

cnave.com supports joyo with pictures. Looks like amazon too!

Found some dts titles not available in R1 that I added to the 16:9 & DTS list.

1. Yes. I notice that long time ago, but I just don't understand why it isn't Amazon.cn instead of a whole new name JoYo.

2. It doesn't surprise me that it isn't English-friendly. Even Amazon.fr or de or jp isn't completely English-friendly.

3. As for the shipping, I tried the translation and summarized here.
The link provided is somehow a special sale for sending gifts to family or friends overseas. Therefore it provides some special discount for the delivery rate (originally the shipping is only via UPS).

US & UK are zone 4 (in RMB)
Per shipment \\ Video/music box \\ Book \\ Video/music\\DVD sleeve packing*
0 \\ 95 \\ 60 \\ 20 \\ 6 (Slow)
140 \\ 110 \\ 70 \\ 25 \\ 10 (Fast)

Slow: Standard (5-24 days)
Fast: UPS express (2-7 days)

* Some DVDs are sold without case indicated in the item description. But the cover artworks are included. All items listed under "DVD" are like that.

When you click the 6th from the left, you go to the box-set category.
It's cheap, but I think it is too complicate to order for people who don't understand Chinese.

I went right through ordering...but stopped at the final process.

Shipping is VERY reasonable.

One CSI I added to my cart was under 4 dollars.

I used babelfish to go through the check out. I think I am gonna take the plunge and check it out. Worse case is I don't get a case.....not a problem. :)

Another thing, 10 disc Tom & Jerry for 3 bucks before shipping. Insane!

Did you order them?

Bill Geiger 01-21-06 07:08 PM

No, I didn't. The CSI's were full frame only.

You also have to make sure you are buying DVDs not VideoCDs. VCDs are in a lot of case much cheaper than DVDs in Asia.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is this an 88-disc boxed set of Beakman's World on VCD? Wonders never cease.

Bill Geiger 01-22-06 02:54 AM

Believe me, the site listed if they are dvd or vcd.

It's VCD, as indicated in the category and the reply in the below.
No DVD at this moment.

I noticed that later. And subtitle is Chinese only.
I was tempted and did order some DVDs, like Color Trilogy that has English subtitle.

Bill Geiger 02-07-06 12:28 AM

So, did you ever get your order? Results?

wildeny 02-07-06 07:12 PM

I ordered five DVDs (quite adventurous) and received them on Monday, only slightly delayed by the Chinese New Year. But it's fast enough.

* Children of Paradise (1946)
I bought this because the cover is similar to the Criterion Collection's
The Chinese one is NTSC, so I suspect it is from CC. But it doesn't have commentary & special features. Two DVDs contain 3.65GB and 3.85GB, which can be fitted into one D9 => Maybe the film was compressed again (need to be confirmed by people who have CC.

China:

* Roman Holiday (1953)
The cover is different, but the menu is the same as the one in R1 Special Collector's edition.
This time the Chinese one is D9 and video is in NTSC format.

* Trois Couleurs (1993-4) (aka Three Colours)
This seems to be from R2 France MK2 or R2 UK Artificial Eye. The package shows MK2. Therefore, this one is in PAL format.

China (I reduced the image size): however, it doesn't have subtitle for this part, unlike the Artificial Eye release.

I also bought two DVDs packed in sleeves (including the artwork)
* Wide Straberries (1957)
The Chinese one seems to be from CC: video in NTSC & similar menu design. But it doesn't have special features and contains only 3.71GB (compressed again?)

12 Angry Men (1957)
The Chinese one seems to be from R1 MGM: video in NTSC, no special features and only 3.91GB (compressed again?)

Conclusion:
1. The video format of the DVDs in China, either NTSC or PAL, depends on where "the source" is from. It's strange to me, because their TV is PAL system
2. Package: except the Trois Couleurs, the package looks cheap. The case is lighter than the usual ones we used to. The DVD artwork is OK though (but slightly off in color in some case).
3. DVD Menu: both in Chinese & English as well as in subtitle. Some DVDs listed in JoYo.com show only Chinese subtitle but in fact usually have English.
4. Authorization: JoYo.com staff claimed Trois Couleurs is the legitimate release. But I'm not sure about it. Especially other DVDs in this order look not. On the other hand, JoYo, as part of Amazon, shouldn't sell the counterfeits ..

Surely the prices are very cheap, especially during this special shipping charge campaign. Without it, the shipping will be more than the DVD price.
