Batman Special Editions. Which region are you getting?

I decided to post this poll here because I'm undecided where to preorder the new Batman films from.

The R1 discs have the theatrical artwork but come in a boxset. R2 has the superior teaser artwork but Batman Returns is cut by seven seconds. R3 can be found quite cheaply, comes in a boxset but has the theatrical artwork and R4 has the nice teaser artwork ruined by the new OFLC logos that they are plastering all over the covers here.

Where are you making your purchase and why?

I'm pretty sure the Korean releases have the teaser art, and the HKs have the theatrical art. I went ahead and ordered the boxset from Korea for a little under $60 shipped. The fact that they're NTCS and use the better cover art were the deciding factors for me.

pics?

Interesting. Thanks! I'll do a search but it sounds like that may be the way I go. Where did you order from?

dvdfromkorea.com. The pictures aren't that large, but you can see what looks like some small Korean writing underneath the title (probably the title in Korean), and small circle of text also in Korean on the front.

There are better pictures of the covers over at Yesasia, but their price isn't nearly as good.

Yeah. Pretty obvious that the Korean DVD's are the better artwork. But with the deal Best Buy is running, hard to pass up. Going with R1 here.

There is no way in hell I'm adding the Schumacker films to my collection, so I'm just getting the region-1 of the two Burton films - cheaper than the imports, no cuts, no PAL, and the covers aren't that big a deal.

(actually, my "supplier" - a friend who owns a video store - is getting these tomorrow, and giving them to me at his cost, so...)

jdslater1 10-10-05 12:12 PM

I'm going R2. I just love those covers, I am just hoping that they have the slipcases and in the new Legacy boxset the slipcases are included. This is one set I cannot wait for.
It seems odd that we are only a few weeks to go and no menu shoots or any updates have been released.

None for October. I'm hoping for a Japanese R2 DTS at some point. Surprised the initial release won't be :(. It's a good film, though hardly worth the double dip to me.

You're talking about the wrong film. This is the Batman SE thread, not Batman Begins.

Cameron 10-12-05 04:22 AM

r1...covers not that big a deal...its all about hte content

jdslater1 10-13-05 04:29 AM

I like the R2 covers, but I want to go for the boxset. so I will not see the covers.
I never said it made any sense!

jezza01 10-15-05 10:11 PM

I'm getting the R1 box set, only because it is cheaper than getting them seperately by about $15US.
Which is also an option unlike what was mentioned earier in this thread, "The R1 discs have the theatrical artwork but come in a boxset."

Barry 10-15-05 11:24 PM

Am I missing something here?
What's all this talk about artwork.
Is not the movie Picture + Sound most important?
Why is no one getting R3 Korea releases that have DTS soundtracks!

Fincher Fan 10-16-05 06:29 AM

Every region has DTS.

Warner Bros will be releasing the films in every region, and will be using the exact same picture and sound transfers in every region. All else being equal, the quality of the cover art is important for many collectors.

jdslater1 10-16-05 10:43 AM

I strongly agree!

run1 10-16-05 05:08 PM

I do believe the UK R2 versions have cuts though. Not sure of this is the case of all the films, but I seem to recall reading someplace that at least 2 of them have some 9-10 seconds cuts.......

Fincher Fan 10-17-05 05:58 AM

You recall reading it where? Like in the very first post of this thread for one? Batman Returns is cut by 7 seconds.

Not quite. PAL has a superior picture quality.

Let's not turn this into another PAL vs NTSC debate, please.

Cosmic Bus 10-17-05 10:16 AM

I went with the R3 HK editions of Batman, Batman Returns and the 2-disc Batman Begins. Better cover art for all three and almost half what I'd pay for the R1 copies.

Ok ok ok........ I messed up. Sorry

jdslater1 10-17-05 01:25 PM

It seems there is no UK R2 boxset, am I right in thinking that?
Also am I right in thinking that the UK R2 editions come with a slipcase?
