Is this the correct link for this DVD:

I got a voucher to get an extra $2 off but I want to make sure this is indeed the DC...

digitalfreaknyc 03-25-06 01:38 PM

Amusing that every region is getting this but us. This makes R2-4. Does 5 have it? ;)

TheMovieman 03-25-06 05:33 PM

Although I already own the original R1 and will be getting this one, I might also get the DTS version as well... Any reliable sites to get that from?

So, anyone own this version? Does it indeed have the DC?

So how much different is the unrated version from the theatrical one? I know that there's supposed to be more gore, but maybe there's someone who has seen the unrated version who can tell us if it is really worth it to invest in the unrated version.

I had the DTS version from Australia...and loved it!

Here's what the differences are (thanks goes to Gav at IMDb who e-mailed them to me):

- As Casey's boyfriend is killed during the opening sequence, a shot of his intestines falling out of his body as he dies in the chair has been reinstated.

- When Casey's mother screams as she sees her daughter dead, the tracking shot into Casey hanging from the tree is now at normal speed. This was speeded up greatly in the R-rated print. We now clearly get to see Casey's eviscerated body hanging from the tree, with her guts in a pile on the floor...

- As Tatum is killed in the garage door, we now see her head being agonisingly crushed as the door jams. The R-rated cuts simply away at the point of impact.

- When Kenny is slashed in the throat, we now see him die in the director's cut. After his neck is cut, we now see blood squirting out of Kenny's neck as he looks up at the killer and slowly dies. All that remains in the theatrical print was the initial slashing.

- As Billy and Stu begin to slowly lose it in the final scenes, we now clearly see Billy stabbing Stu two more times. In the R-rated version, we only heard the stabbings off-screen as we focussed on Sidney's face.

- There is now a shot of blood running down Stu's arm and dripping into a large pool on the floor as we slowly pan down his body, with Sidney's father looking on. in the R-rated version, we simply see a static shot of Billy's bloody hand flexing nervously.

---------

I've read online that all told, it's only 20-30 seconds but from this description, it certainly sounds like a bloody massacre by comparison...

Any good place to get it at a decent price (other than e-bay)? I saw one at ezydvd.com.au for $21, though with shipping it'd be closer to $30. I was hoping CD-Wow would have it since they have free shipping, but I didn't see it there.

I do believe that the German R2 copy is the DC so I'll be picking that up for $18, looks to be worth it. Of course, after I get it, Miramax will announce R1 will be getting it as well...

It's $AUD13.56 (roughly $USD9.60) at Family Boxoffice but in stock at Devoted for $AUD16.95 (approx. $USD12). GST will be subtracted from that for an international order.

And I never watched it. I sold it for the uncut Korean NTSC version. Couldn't take the PAL speed up.

How is the quality of the R3 Korean DVD? I was thinking about getting this one myself, but read another post here saying it was a bad transfer.

Any help would be appreciated! I notice there was another R2 France release coming soon, but this time without DTS, it might also be the director's cut?

TheMovieman 03-26-06 11:35 AM

Yeah, I'd be interested to know about the transfer (and where to buy it) as well...

clckworang 03-26-06 05:06 PM

Thank you, TheMovieman, for the run down and what we are missing. It seems like the missing shots don't necessarily take very long but probably add quite a bit to the overall feeling of the scenes.

And I don't think anyone has to worry about an unrated Region 1 version coming out. It's my understanding that Disney won't release any unrated editions of their films. Maybe I heard this in the audio commentary, can't remember for sure, but I know that Craven wanted to release the director's cut but it wasn't allowed.

It's the Japanese version you have to worry about. That's the quality issue. Korean is first rate. Do a search on this board. There have been posts about Scream before.

Here are two threads what had me a bit worried about Scream:

Thanks for confirming it is indeed a good transfer, unfortunately I have already made my last Korean order now and won't be able to order the box set for another month or two now.

Cheers,

R3 Korean (Dawoori Entertainment) is confirmed to be the "Unrated" DVD Compare, but the box set is released by 'Spectrum'! Is this the "unrated" version too?
