Hmn.. Anyone seen these two flicks?
 

Only seen reviews at Imdb, but never heard anyone mention these movies. Are they any good? Do you remember? Worth buying?

I believe Xiu Xiu is what I saw titled as Xiu Xiu the Sent Down Girl. I haven't seen the other movie.

Since taste in movies is a personal thing, I hesitate to say someone should blind buy a particular movie. However, I enjoyed this movie, and thought it was good. If you're interested rural Chinese life under communism you may well enjoy this movie.

I never rent movies, I only buy them, and I resell those I don't want to keep. If this is your policy and you're interested in the subject, then buy Xiu Xiu, it's worth a look. If you normally rent, and if you're particularly interested in the subject and this movie isn't available for rental in your area (one of the reasons I buy all my DVDs), you might consider a purchase.

Suzhou is worth the purchase, especially at that price. I own it, and enjoyed it. I agree with the other poster that reviews/opinions may lead to bad "blind buys", but I think you might be safe with the price/quality of the film.

Just as an FYI there is a 2 disc set that sells for $8-$10. It has both Suzhou and Purple Butterfly in it. It might be worth checking out, although I Suzhou is the better of the two anyhow (at least to me)

I guess this will become fairly obvious upon researching it, but many people suggest Vertigo played a heavy influence on Suzhou and I can't disagree.

Xiu Xiu sucks...dont buy it..just rent it...
