International Price Differences
How does it come that there are so big price differences for the same dvd on different kind of markets?
|
cost of living, and copyright laws are the two main factors.
cost of living. If an american brings home a 600 dollar paycheck for two weeks he can afford to pay 20 dollars for a dvd. If someone in another country brings home the equivalent of 200 american dollars for the same type of work and pay period the the same type of dvd should cost him a little under seven dollars. it is a balance of what percentange of one's income can be afforded on entertainment. Copyright and bootlegs also play a factor. If laws are not strict then anyone can make copies of a movie for a little above the cost of production. Do this in mass and even that small markup from cost can create a small fortune. Companies have offered limited edition packaging and extras to create a draw in countries where a dvd quality copy can be had for under 3 dollars. |
