Tokyo dvd stores

If anyone been or is in tokyo can you reccomend some stores to visit in Tokyo to pick up DVD's.

You can find them everywhere.
Personally, I like some of the stores in Shinjuku,
like Disk Union in Shinjuku San-Chome. The 3rd floor has a nice selection
of DVDs used and new, and imports too.

Yodobashi Camera (chain) generally has a good selection and often have some harder to get titles. I used to frequent their Kawasaki store (maybe 30 minutes from Shinagawa on the train).

Just stick with the JR Yamanote Line - it goes in a circle ;)
(and pick up one of those nifty Suica cards, which helps since it automatically deducts the fare based on distance. The lime green colored Suica machines have an english button on them to boot)

As for dvds, I recommend just wandering around places like Akihabara, Shinjuku, Ikekuburo, etc. - don't forget to check out the smaller, off to the side places since it's part of the fun ;)
If you have the time, you can comparison shop among various stores so don't blow all of your money at the first store you come across :)

Don't worry, the Subway system has been changed and all the Subway stations now got Codes on them.So it's more easy to travel. And to get to Shinjuku Station is not a problem, it's once you get out of the station that you might get lost :D

dont know if there is one in tokyo, but when we went to okinawa, there was a best buy type chain i think it was called tsutaya

manicsounds 06-27-05 09:19 PM

Tsutaya is a rental store ala Blockbuster.
They do have a selection of new CDs and DVDs but most of it is rental based.

thanks for the info.

am in tokyo now, got lost couple times but people here very helpful.

can I ask when in Akhibara is everything, either I got off at the wrong exit or got there too late (9PM) casue I couldnt find much.

Also looking for Kill Bill Vol 1 but every store I looked has got it for exact same price and the same price lable = 3,900 YEN

Do you reckon I can find it cheaper than that ?

thanks...wait I mean "aragato" :D

Thrawn_VA 06-30-05 11:55 AM

I really doubt you can find it cheaper. Most DVD stores in Japan charge the MSRP. The only places I think were you might would be somewhere in Akihabara or if it was a used rental from a video store such as Family Book.

I used this for anime shopping when I was there, but the maps were a godsend:

Otherwise, look for the "Electric Town" exit.

By the way, did you get a Tokyo city atlas before going? It's almost a must for new visitors to navigate the place.
