Hitchcock Collections $42 each at Amazon UK

Just though I'd mention this. I have the CC box and the other, newer, box, but these two box sets are some of the best Hitch flicks: Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho, etc. They are marked at 75% off. IMHO, this is a stupendous deal.

Box Set 1

Box Set 2

84.32 USD for both of them, and when you take away the VAT and add shipping it should be roughly the same.

My one question is, does anyone know if these are anamorphic versions or not? I'm waiting to pull through trigger until I find out.

I did some research on www.dvdcompare.net, and I would advise against getting Volume 2. At least four of the films in that collection are not in OAR (The Birds, Marnie, Torn Curtain, Topaz).

Volume 1 seems to be fine, with the exception of Psycho.

Just one other caution:

Unless your DVD player can play Region 2 discs then you don't want to get these sets. These DVDs are Region 2, so most standard DVD players bought in the US and CA will not play these discs. Just a heads up...

Of this I am aware. I figured most people here would know the perils of R2 buying. Or that they've already discovered the perils of owning a region-free player :(

I, too, figured most here probably know this as well, but just wanted to watch out for some of the uninformed "Cool New Members" and others who might not pick up on that small R2 detail.

Bummer about the OAR screw-up on set 2. :thmbsdwn: Do these sets contain all of the extras from the single-title editions, like commentaries, etc.

Dazza 04-21-05 06:35 AM

I've never owned (or seen) the single title editions so I can't compare, but I bought the vol 2 boxset in-store (for about US$24) and it does come with quite a few extras. There is some information about these in the link provided in the first post.
The OAR thing doesn't bother me too much, especially for a set that cost me so little.

Dazza.
