Question about Hairspray by John Waters
Hi all,
Wondered if anyone had the UK Zone 2 of Hairspray. I have the Zone 1 and was a bit disappointed in what I believe to be a cut scene. I saw hairspray in the cinema when it came out. I'm also a swing dancer and am quite familiar with the Madison. (The line dance when Tracy gets noticed). In the Madison, there is a part of the song called Birdland. I remember vividly seeing the dancers in hairspray brake off into "birdland" when I saw this in the cinema.
I've checked with some other dancer friends of mine, including 1 who teaches the madison at his dance school. He also remembers this. The Zone 1 is clearly an abbreviated version of the scene, skipping birdland.
If you have the Zone 2, can you check that scene and let me know if its intact.
During "birdland", everyone breaks the line and goes into improv mode. The caller in the song, calls hit it, and everyone comes back into the madison line... flawlessly of course.
Thanks in advance.
Jim
