Amazon.de

There are a number of DVD titles that I would like to purchase via Amazon.de (Germany). Has anyone had any problems or issues with them? What about the shipping cost, reasonable or no?

Are there any other worthwhile sites for R2 DVD releases?

Many thanks,

Platipus

As for R2 DVD's, all the Amazon's are great. I have had great experiences with Amazon UK and Amazon France. Amazon Germany's shipping is pretty expensive though.

For Danish DVD's I use www.laserdisken.dk. The shipping is cheap and they usually reach me in Atlanta in about 5-7 days.

Danish DVDs? For DVDs that have better editions compared to the US ones? Or for Danish films? Can you recommend any? (I take it you order frequently.)

Thanks!

I actually don't order Danish DVD's frequently. Most of my Region 2 purchases have been from France and England. I did however purchase the Danish releases of Lars von Trier's DOGVILLE and BREAKING THE WAVES because they were both released in Denmark as 2-disc special editions containing numerous bonus features not found on the US releases.

From a service standpoint Amazon.de is great, as are all of the european Amazons, but shipping rates are higher (which must be a German thing becaue shipping rates at all German e-tailers seem to be high).

Thanks very much for the reply, bjackson. I'll have to pass on those two though. Not really my style. I'm a cretin. :)

the shipping is anything but reasonable if you are in the states. you might pay up to 4x the price of the DVD in most cases for shipping.

amazon.de improved its service quiet a bit over the past years. 3 years ago a shipment to the US took as long as 6 weeks (about 2 weeks until they shipped the in-stock merchandise)
In the meantime, they ship immediately and its takes about 2 weeks to the US
Once a shipment got lost and they replaced it immediately.
The only negative thing is the very high shipping cost to the US. But they at least deduct the 15 pct or so taxes from the original price.

Thanks for the replies everyone, very helpful!

Not that I've seen. They still take forever to get to the US. Very slow.

Is my math wrong, or are those $35 each, not including shipping?

I was thinking about Klatretøsen -- but not for $35 + shipping

How do people in Denmark actually afford DVDs if they are all $35 each? :)

bjackson 03-03-05 10:59 AM

Yeah, the are about $35.00 each. If you live in the US, the tax is not included in the price, so the grand total, including shipping to the US, is about $35.00. Laserdisken has the cheapest shipping of all the Danish retailers that I've made purchases from.

Any alternatives to Amzon.de?

Is there anything better? I'm dying to order some German DVDs & soundtrack CDs. How are the shipping charges if one orders multiple items?

Thanks,
Ted
