I was gonna wait until I read some reviews on this release, but now I think I might pre-order somewhere just to make sure I get a copy.
Still available here

http://www.dvdheaven.com/list_detail...02=1&idx=10247

Be about $31.00 shipped if you order just this.

I just bought one from TMC asian Music on Canel street (NYC). It's one DVD-9 (MPG-2) with chinese and english subtitles. ALso it does look like all region. On the back of the box it said (in chinese) only be distributed in china. Its only 13 bucks.

Is this a boot leg? it has http://www.zokegd.com on it too.

This sounds like the Zoke Culture release from mainland China, which is the poorest-quality of all the legitimate DVD editions.

I'm not saying that the Zoke release isn't legitimate, but it's possible it's not. Although Zoke is a big chinese company, they definately put out a lot of bootleg titles. Personally, I wouldn't trust any of their product.

Their Ghibli (Totoro, Castle In The Sky, etc.) DVD's are all taken from bootleg prints, and many of their Jackie Chan titles are bootlegs of Hong Kong Legends discs.

You information is not accurate. Actually Zoke is given the permission to use the print from HK companies, but they are only allowed to use Mandarin audio tracks, so if you compare the Zoke version and HK version on the same movie, you will see normally HK version has both Mandarin/Cantonese audio while Zoke version only has Mandarin track, but the video is same on both version. Zoke is weak on mastering the dvds, so basically if they release the dvd themselves, the quality is crap, burn-in subtitle with blur video. If HK has released that movie on dvd, then they will use that video print plus mandarin audio track. As far as I know, they are authorized to do so. I dont' think Zoke released Ghibli dvds, I believe that's the other company did so, but I'm not certain on this.

By the way, Zoke version of HOFD is as good as EKDO 1 disc version, they use its video print plus Mandarin audio. The one on dvdbeaver is dvd-5 version, Zoke released a dvd-9 version later on.

When you add in the shipping cost from either Koreandvds or dvdheave, add $9 onto the price they have listed. Pretty equal if you ask me on this title.

The Starmax release of HOFD omits the original Mandarin dialogue track and the DTS-ES track. Unless the transfer is vastly superior to the Edko, i'm going to pass.

Great. Figures I see this after I pre-order. Where you'd find this out btw?

Uh, no, my information is accurate. Did you even read my post? I only said it that it could be legit, but that it was possible that it was a bootleg because they put out other bootlegs. Nothing inaccurate about that.

Zoke definately put out Ghibli DVD's, and they are definately bootlegs.

I guess I'm going to pass on the Starmax LE. Btw...does anybody know where can I find comparisons between Edko 3 disc and Japan LE Box? Thanks.

Zoke definately put out Ghibli DVD's, and they are definately bootlegs.
The interesting thing is if Zoke put out those Ghibli dvds, then they must be legit in China. It might be illegal for you to purchase them if you are not in China. something similiar to be discussed here

No, they are bootleg prints with the bootleg company's logo still on the print.

Even if they are legit, the quality of Zoke product is boot quality, so the argument is moot, afaic.

That's not saying much. The Edko single-disc edition is also terrible.

so i ask again, double dipping is buying the same movie in 2 different forms, triple dip is the same movie in 3 versions? like, buying the regular version, LE, and UE is a triple dip?
