I don't know about "under $50". I got mine from dvdsfromkorea.com and the total incl. shipping was $53.95. They have since sold out as well

With the image quality being so close between the Edko and Starmax and the Edko having the better audio and at about $30 cheaper and more easily obtainable, I'd say go with the Edko. CD Wow is a good place - I've had stellar customer service from them.

I have not read a review stating the audio was better so far on the Edko disc. The comparison at DVD Beaver of the Starmax was emailed to the website and I believe nobody has compared the audio tracks who actually own both discs.

I believe the Edko was giving the benefit of the doubt since it was full-bit rate and included ES. If you read the "Hero" comparison the Japanese DTS 5.1 was better then the Edko DTS-ES track.

Is the HOFD Edko DTS-ES 6.1 track discrete or matrix?, I know "Hero" was matrix.

One thing I have notice is the Edko disc Menus are in English where the Starmax disc is in Korean. I am still waiting for my Starmax LE to arrive.

The Edko's DTS mix is 6.1 ES Discrete for the 2-disc and 3-disc sets. The old single-disc edition (with the inferior video transfer) was 5.1.

I own the Starmax version. The menus are in English (disc 1, movie) and Korean (disc2, supplements)

Sony has the Region 1 release (4/19) listed on their website:

http://www.sonypictures.com/homevide...396091788.html

It lists a runtime of 119 minutes. Anyone able to discern whether that is a cut or uncut runtime? It does still says PG-13....

They had it on Saturday (as well as the Hero Ultimate Edition), but when I checked back last night both were out.

Anyone seen it somewhere else?

I've seen it at yesasia.com and koreandvds.com

Might be still in stock there.

I would assume the runtime of the cut version is rounded off to be the same as the uncut version since the footage removed in the US version only amounted to a few seconds worth of editing (the throat slice and "look behind you"). The rest was digital alteration (erasing the blood spurts) without the removal of actual footage. So there's no way to tell at this point.

I see that there are three 5.1 tracks and none of them is a DTS track. So I guess it's safe to assume that a Superbit release is on the way. I'll just wait and see what the reviews are like for this R1 set and if it looks good enough and is uncut, I'll wait for the Superbit release.

One a side note: could they have picked a worse picture of Andy Lau?

Ah, I didn't realize the difference was so short. So we'll wait and see... Thanks!

When you search for it at DVDHeaven, it says it is out-of-stock, but on the order page it says it ships in 1-2 days, and you can add it to your cart:

Actually it's the other way around: The listing shows it as 1-2 days and when you click "Add to Cart" a message window pops up to say it's out of stock.

YesAsia's American site isn't allowed to carry it per restrictions from Sony, and KoreanDVDs is out of stock.

Guess I should have bought it when I had the chance. Oh well, it's just money I didn't need to spend anyway.

They package orders securely and shipping to the US (free, BTW) takes no more than 10 days.

If anyone's interested, James at dvdutopia has exactly 2 mint (unopened) HOFD LE (Acryl, Starmax release) left.

He had bought some to give as gifts to relatives but since they were not into these HK films he decided to sell em at the price he bought it (including shipping fees incurred when he bought it)

He has sold 3 overseas and is planning to sell the remaining to the local used market. Here's the scoop.

Price + Shipping to US/Europe

For EMS Shipping : DVD (U$25) + Shipping ($28) = $53 (tracking# provided, 2~3 days arrival)
For Regular Shipping : DVD (U$25) + Shipping ($18) = $43 (no tracking#, 7~10 days arrival)

The dvd with packaging is 530 grams and it is considered as 'package' which is why the shipping is so high.

So, if the price seem right, you can contact him.

Well my starmax finally arrived. It's much better than the first Edko (no surprise), but I thought also improved upon the 2nd Edko version too. I would say (as others have) a tad sharper. Also, I thought the last two chapters didn't suffer from the over contrast like the 1st did and even improved on the 2nd Edko version in this area. It's not quite up to the Elite's Hero release, but I am less likely to buy the R1 version...unless a superbit comes out and bests the rest.

Just wondering if anyone has been able to compare the Zoke Culture DVD 9, two disk version of HOFD. When I went to Chinatown and accidently bought my edko at the time (I made the right choice I think) the chinatown video stores had another two disk that was region free (the zoke). I thought at the time it was the same one as the Edko, but only region free. It had the same cover, but with a cardboard slip. And was cheaper. WHen I bought it, I felt I got ripped off at the time, before I rad dvd beaver and this site.

Has anyone seen this version and how does it compare. In terms of pricing it was 3 dollars cheaper in chinatown, about 13 bucks, as opposed to 16 bucks for the region 3 I bought. I just really want to know if it was any good.

THe last zoke releases I have was a dvd 9 of my sassy girl which was basically korean version, but with chinese menus instead of the english and a mandarin dub. It looked decent too. And I bought a region 6 infernal affairs 2, but it was pure crap dubbed and just vcd like quality
