None of them. I'm just waiting on the Lynch-approved SE like everyone else.

That's a stupid and unhelpful reply.

The best I've seen and heard is the German DVD

Or you could just wait and wait and wait for NBC-Universal to release the disc in the USA.

You'll find plenty comment on the versions available if you search this forum.

I haven't seen the German disc, but I've always been quite happy with my French disc that I picked up a few years ago (I don't even know if it's still in print - it's on the TF1 label).
From a non-techie point of view, I always consider the pic & sound on this release to be good - the sound is only 2.0, but is still quite impressive.
It contains French & English versions of the film, a trailer, fimographies and a Lynch interview...

Dazza.

There are a few cheaper discs on Amazon.de Marketplace

This really is a 'budget' German disc now and I've seen it as low as €10 new.

The only other decent version seems to be the Portuguese disc.

With a great film like this I'm only interested in that thunderous soundtrack and quality image. The other versions of the DVD I've seen/heard are a joke in comparison to the German disc.

BTW, if you go via EBay.com you can look at those German Ebay auctions and they're translated. I think you have to search for 'items available worldwide' or something like that.

Be careful getting the German disc. The quality is amazing but the audio is horribly out of sync. I found it to be near unwatchable.

The Audio is out of sync (I heard later releases corrected this, but I could be wrong), but I kinda found it made the film much more strange in a weird way.

No problems here with audio synch. I have heard of problems with the first release (possible 4+ years ago) but I have that disc and it's fine.

There is a new release in a new style case.

I watched the german disk from nicheflix and thought it had a decent transfer, didn't notice any audio synch problems.
You can always try renting from nicheflix first and see for yourself.
