PAL Speed Up

I'm considering buying a DVD player with PAL conversion. I just want to know how noticeable PAL speed up is. Occasionally I hear people complain about some speed up. Does it have to do with the equipment or some thing else? Any help would be appreciated.

It has to do with the different frame rates between PAL and NTSC. Depending on the material being watched, sometimes PAL speed-up is not noticeable to me. If it's a song or some form of music I've heard a thousand times, then the speed-up will be more noticeable.

It really depends on the person. Some people (like me) are more sensitive to it than others. I notice it most with films starring actors whose voices I'm familar with, or with music I'm familiar with. In those cases, the voices definitely sound more high pitched to me, and the music sounds a bit off. I notice PAL speed up the least with foreign language films. It can be a big point of disagreement, because the people whose ears aren't sensitive to it often say that others are just imagining things. :lol:

Anyway, it has nothing to do with your equipment. It's just a byproduct of converting film (shot at 24 frames per second) to PAL (which is at 25 fps) resulting in a 4% speed up.

Oh boy.

Your best bet is to do some research on this topic. There have been MANY a heated debate on this subject. Do yourself a favor and just go that route.

As suggested, your best bet here is to do a search restricted to
this forum;
any date;

and using the keyword "speedup".
