Anyone seen Spider Forest & R - Point? (R3)

Spider Forest & R - Point are being released within a couple of weeks and I thinking of getting them. However, I would like to know if anyone seen them and if so do you think they are worth getting? Any response would be helpful...

Cheers ,

odd you should say : mine have both shipped in the last couple of days.

spider forest reviews are mixed : some say overly familiar, others "film of the year". $27 including shipping to me...

r-point is top of the preorders at a lot of sites : $30 to me including shipping.

I'd be interested to read any comment on R-Point - it's looks like it could be worth a blind purchase

R Point may well sell out I think, so if you want it get your orders in as its starting to get low or sell out atr certain places.

I dont want to read anything on the film myself I saw some images and a simple plot detail page and it got me interested lots, and then I saw the nice package you got and thought why not hope its as good as it is in my head.

Interesting tidbit about a Chinese R-Point remake/co-production:

Source: The Korean Times

R-POINT, a South-Korean horror film set in the Vietnam War, which had very good result during his opening weekend, is planned to be remade in China by production companies from South Korea and China.

The remake will be produced by C & Film, the original producer of ``R-Point'', and a Chinese production company run by Zhang Yimou with investment by CCTV, China's state television company.

The Chinese filmmaker first showed interest in buying the copyright to the story and remaking the movie but the local production company wanted to co-produce the film.

The original Korean movie is about a South Korean squadron in Vietnam that looks into the mysterious disappearance of 18 soldiers.

I didn't find R-Point to be very scary at all. It's interesting but while it succeeds in establishing a somewhat creepy atmosphere, the scares are few and far between. It's more a supernatural thriller than a horror film. While it's still a notch above current Asian horror film fare, it has a number of obvious flaws including the ending. And since I agree with the following review completely, I'll save myself some typing:

Hey I guess how you watch the film depends on if you are scared and jumped, I watched it in total darkness at night with the sound up as loud as it would go, if you watch it in the day time with sunlight coming thru your windows and on a small tv with mono sound it wont

but for me it has a very good scary feeling to it throughout and I loved the ending too

Haven't watched R-Point yet, but I can say that I loved Spider Forest. Really good atmosphere and the opening really grabs your attention. Definately one of the best Korean films that I've seen from this year. The ending unravels a little bit, but it's still a pretty haunting work, if you ask me. One other comment: this film was shot on digital video, but unfortunately the DVD transfer uses a film print which has quite a few scratches on it and there is a fair amount of compression artifacting too, but other than that the cinematography is quite beautiful.
