Got my R2 Casshern -- Initial Thoughts.

My 3-disc R2 Casshern arrived today. Packaging is simple, 3 slim digipacks in a slipcase.

I've only watched the film in dts-ES but it looked and sounded awesome. A very nice 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer and really bright colors help bring this story to life.

The picture was a little bit soft to my eyes but still looked great. Colors are awesome.

I can't wait to get into the rest of this set.

Anyone else get theirs? :)

candyrocket786 10-25-04 09:46 PM

Mine shipped on 10/22. Can't wait to get it. :D

nodoubt 10-26-04 01:00 AM

the other 2 discs are unsubbed extras, right?

cutmeowntroat 10-26-04 05:52 AM

Amazon.co.jp shipped mine on October 23rd.
Already I can't wait any longer till it arrives!

Any word if there will be an LE (other than the current one) or a nice boxed set of this coming out in the near future?

Right. But the visuals are pretty cool anyway. You can get the jist of most of the "making of" stuff anyway.

I understand some Japanese and I could follow along pretty well.

I got the set the other day. I've only been able to watch about an hour of it, but I'll hopefully be able to put some more time into it tonight or tomorrow.

Like RicP said, the packaging is simple, but very nice.

The set comes in a nice and sturdy silver/metallic box (sorry about it being out of focus..)

Inside the digipacks and back of the box

the picture also looked a tad soft to my eyes as well, but nothing I'd really complain about.

Looks pretty nice. For some reason I never preordered this one, even though I really want to see it. I might have to get this soon.

Any word on a Korean release?

odyas 10-27-04 11:10 AM

How's the movie? The trailer is freaking awesome. Very tempted to get it man.

None yet, that I know of. Though I'm not sure what the usual period of time is between a Japanese and Korean release.

The movie is good. I'm only about 1/2 way through it right now, but I'm enjoying it a lot. It's a B story with A cinematography and art direction. It's basically like a live-action anime. Which is funny, because it's based on an old 30 year old anime series...

nodoubt 10-27-04 03:54 PM

I watched the movie and I'm a little confused. Would appreciate an explanation. Thanks!

**Spoilers**
Spoiler:
When the general's son told the leader of the neo-sapiens that he was in fact human, that he was their ancestor. and then the movie flashed back and show that tetsuya was the one who shot his wife...etc. what the? and then later, he said the father's experiment failed.. so where did they come from? finally at the end, luna got shot in the head, then somehow came back to life and said something like"this isn't me, i dont want to hurt you" and they explode across outer space. Then im guessing they showed scenes of what could have been if humans arent selfish (all the happy scenes)..

Contrary to some beliefs on this forum, not every Asian movie gets a Korean DVD release. CASSHERN was never released in Korean theaters, so it is very unlikely that it will be released on DVD there. Sorry!
Anyway, the Japanese release is damn sweet, so I recommend you buy it.

Agreed 100%!!!

Heavy Liquid:

Nice shot of the Zenith 318 in action! That's what I used to view my set as well. :)

flashburn 10-27-04 07:00 PM

Damn you people! I guess I will pick it up when I receive my $5 coupon from YesAsia.

Don't wait: http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/...147928-3224208
Even with shipping, it's cheaper than yesasia (~$43). May have to get one for myself.. the film looks intriguing. :)

Hey hundreds of films dont get a cinema release in Korea, and they still some out on dvd, so yes people expect a Korean release, and it pretty much 100% certain wil happen as it happens with practically all sellable films, and this IS a film that will sell.

Waste a shitload on a Japanese over priced dvd or get a cheaper version a few months or so down the line, nothing to think about really, unless you have loads of cash or realllllyyyy want to see the film. I really want to see it, but come on! its far to high priced and I buy anything, but japanese dvds are just taking the piss with there silly prices. :)

Ojam 10-27-04 09:38 PM

does the film have english subs?

I paid $39 over @ Amazon (w/ 500 yen coupon)

I'm sure a 3 Disc Korean release would be just a couple of bucks less (shipped).

bobstevens 10-28-04 03:47 AM

Is there any hope for a HK release? I'm intrigued by the film but I'm not paying over $20 to see it blind.

Ditto. i can't wait to get mine. {vigorously rubs grubby little fingers together} ;)

logboy 10-28-04 04:57 AM

dreamworks have the USA rights, so you will see an american disc in the distant future but will it look as good as the japanese (in every respect)?!?!?!
