Shaw Brothers weekly sale at DDDHouse

Updated Feb 9

In the "Weekly Cheap Sale" section at DDDHouse these remastered Shaw Brothers films are HK$35 each. More than half off the regular price.

Big Brother Cheng
Challenge of the Gamesters
The Millionaire Chase

This thread will be updated as new titles are added and previous ones are taken away. If anyone comes across Shaw deals at other sites, please feel free to post them here.

Shaw Brothers 2005 Release Schedule

Check out the CD-WOW coupon page at dvdbargain.net. The US $2 off link is currently the cheapest avenue for recent Shaw discs. Most are $10.95 shipped after discount.

Thanks for the update. I had checked just a few hours ago, and only The Tea House (left over from last week's titles) was there - nice to see new titles now added.

Anyone who wants these should grab them fast, because if the experience of the past two weeks holds, the titles will start dropping off the list very quickly.

FYI...

they often sell used copies that have been returned or rented during this sale.

In case you don't know...

the cheap sale is a way they get rid of returned or previously rented discs. This is why there's so few copies for sale. At one point, I had to get and return three discs before I got one that worked.

I have NEVER received any DVD from them that showed any indication that it was anything but new.

The Shaw Brothers titles I received last week (from the Oct 4 "specials") were properly sealed and contained pristine catalogues and postcards - all the original Celestial enclosures - hardly something that would be there if these were used or rental copies!

Please share your experiences that led to your accusation.

From the single incident you cite, it would seem to indicate a bad pressing. I have purchased nearly 100 DVDs total over the past two years from them, and have never had a problem with any DVD.

For North America....

"We charge shipping cost by quantity starting from 1 copy HK$30, 2 copies HK$50, 3 copies HK$70, 4 copies HK$90, 5 copies HK$105/HK$110, before final confirmation order, you will see your shipping cost."

If you are a repeat customer, they'll give you a shipping discount. I ordered 6 dvds today and my shipping charge was HK$90.

I have ordered from them many times. And I always get hit with duty, but it is never too much. IIRC it is a $5 customs handling fee + 7% GST.

Marty...

it's fairly well known among collectors that they polish and resale the discs. And this wasn't one time. If so, I wouldn't have posted on it. After a couple of times with problems with the same dvd over and over, they sent me an e-mail with a credit telling me they were sorry for all the problems I had. I don't order from them any longer because of it .Please take a look at this post on another forum with others comments on the matter:

Linn1 is right. This is pretty well known and happens with more of their discs than it should. Especially since they never bother to mention that these are used, or polished DVD's. Not a good thing.

There probably isn't a single etailer that hasn't been slammed somewhere on the internet.

I emailed DDDHouse referencing this thread, and had a reply within a few hours denying that they send out defective returns, or previous rentals. His reply is in perfect keeping with my own experiences with them, and with the experience of so many other DVD Talkers who have used them over the past few years without ever encountering this problem.

I'm not here to argue...

and I'm not slamming anyone. Does it make any sense that more than three people posted on the link I showed and none of them were me? I'm just trying to let people know that it HAS happened to more than just one person.

I certainly appreciate all the experiences posted here. I'm waiting on 10 of the sale discs, and will post when I get them (I've never ordered from DDDHouse before).

I just received 6 of the sale Shaw titles, and each looks new in slipcase with catalogues included inside each. The cases show no wear at all, and the discs themselves look perfect.

As well, for some reason customs didn't take notice of my dddhouse shipment this time and I wasn't hit with any duty/customs charges at all. Bonus!

The Tea House has dropped off the sale list. The others are still there, however.

Got 2 of my 10 so far. One was new, one was re-wrapped but in perfect shape (missing catalog, though). No complaints here so far!

I got my copy of Big Brother Cheng in the mail today. It appeared to be brand spanking new. It came in an unpadded envelope in one of those paper envelope with string around double wheel tying system. There was no tape anywhere. The package was then tied loosely together with a sort of lightweight plastic string/twine. It was easily openable and I'm assuming that they package in this manner for ease of customs inspection. While I was surprised at the packaging, there was no damage.

I've now received 14 of the "weekly special" Celestial Shaw Brothers titles - each one in new, sealed perfect condition.

I got my second shipment this weekend and all of them were brand new. So far I've only gotten one that wasn't factory sealed, but it was in perfect shape. And I got it in less time than some of my DeepDiscountDVD orders!
