The two disc should be identical. On the front cover of the ebay image, in the bottom left, there is a blurb about the new transfer from an HD master, written in Chinese, same as on the dvd included in the LE. I just got the LE today, and it's definitely a much better transfer than the previous disc, which was quite poor. The LE is a great package as well, and is probably the best subtitled release (as an overall package) the film will get as the Japanese deluxe edition is not subtitled. The pen is a bit mystifying, as the rest of the package is very classy. It's a bit cheesy, but whatever!

So are the 2 & 3 disc versions really only for region 3? Or are they in fact region 0? I know sometimes they are labeled region 3, but are in fact region 0 (e.g. Infernal Affairs 2 & 3).

There are comparison pics of the original Edko and the new 2 disc set here:

The new release looks considerably better in the fine detail and contrast department.

The single-disc edition from Edko was hard-coded for Region 3. Since these are being put out by the same studio (who also released the Region 3-coded Hero), I would expect the same.

So is there a definitive answer yet about the 2 disc having the same transfer as the 3 disc? I am thinking about placing my order for one or the other at CD Wow, but I would be fine with the 2 disc, assuming the same transfer.

Any CD-Wow coupons around? I remember I used to see a bunch of these, but haven't seen any in a while.

here's a link for $2 off:

http://www8.cd-wow.us/promotion.php?..._1&affid=14282

As far was whether the 2 disc set is same transfer as the LE, the link that Kris provided is for the 2 disc set, so the answer should be yes.

I placed an order this morning for the 2 disc...I was scared CDwow might discountinue shipments to the States, just as other sites have stated.

You know, I realize that the original Edko doesn't have as good of a picture as the new 2-disc set, but before I buy this movie again, I think I am going to wait to see how the Region 1 fairs when it comes out. Afterall, it would be nice to have the movie with some extra features in English - or at least subtitled. Double-dipping I can sometimes live with; triple-dipping, well, I'm not too sure how willing I am to do that.

Actually, as much better as the new edition looks from the original, I was actually surprised that it didn't look even better than it did, especially as much as the original disc has been criticized. I mean, clearly the new one is better, but after seeing those comparison pics, I realize I don't feel AS bad holding off replacing the original. I have a passable version now, so I'll be patient to make sure I get the absolute best version I can, whether it be the eventual Region 1 release or this 2-disc set we've been discussing.

Layoyo still has the Limited edition in stock and it's like 25 bucks - shipping brings it to just about what CDwow has it for - but if you're picking up a few other items, it makes sense.

I was just about to add that myself Trigger. I ordered it from Layoyo on Thursday and got it today via UPS. The $25 shipping somewhat offsets the savings, but as Trigger said, if you add some extra stuff you might have been needing it's a deal. The boxset is 14 units (it's friggin' huge) and you can order up to 20 "units" for the same shipping cost. DVDs are 1 unit, posters are 2. Not only do they have some amazing prices on DVDs, but they have some gorgeous posters which I've never seen before averaging $3-$4 each. I ordered the Zhang Ziyi HoFD poster and a very cool poster for the movie May, as well as 2 of their "sale" $3 DVDs. Most Japanese posters I look for on Ebay go for $20+ after shipping, so for an extra $4 I couldn't resist. All told, came to $65, received the box and poster tube quick, and everything was in mint condition.

One thing that impressed me about Layoyo....I had ordered once before from them when they were DVDShelf, and afterwards I had added some titles to my shopping cart I was planning on buying at a later time. When I logged on to buy HoFD, those items were still showing up....and that was 3 years ago! Yikes.

Anyway, thumbs up to Layoyo and HUGE thumbs up to the awesome Collector's set. The box it comes in is truly classy, and there's a treasure trove of goodies inside....including a set of 4 bookmarks which are shaped like daggers, resting in their very own paper pouch. Hell, even the CD soundtrack comes in a little slipcase. It still amazes me that I was blown away by the Japanese Kill Bill set last year for $80 when sets like this, Old Boy, and Arahan eclipse it for sometimes a fraction of the cost.

sorry if this has been covered earlier, but does either the 2 disc or the 3 disc, fix the brightness (at times) of the Edko disc?

It just looked like they did on the item's description page - when you add it to your cart, it says out of stock.

Not the case. I think the detective located a few more from his supplier.
