The Holy Mountain/ El Topo new DVDs?

Concerning "the supposedly upcoming" The Holy Mountain dvd, does anyone think that this dvd will be remastered to having a DD 5.1 or DTS audio, since it is the type of movie that needs one? Or is it unlikely since it is an early 1970s movie? If Anchor Bay got the rights, I would like to think that they put some type of surround sound audio for this dvd...

Any more news yet on the El Topo/The Holy Mountain remastered dvd release?

Can you post where you read about these releases?
Has Allen Klein finally allowed the re-release of these films?!

Yep, Klein and Jodorowsky have finally worked things out. You can read more about it in this thread:

I haven't heard any more recent news yet. Jodorowsky screened HOLY MOUNTAIN in Toronto last month, but I unfortunately could not attend.

I know that I have mentioned this before but the HiDef presentation I saw of the documentary Midnight Movies: From the Margin to the Mainstream features some scenes from both 'El Topo' and 'The Holy Mountain' in startling pristine HD quality.

A few comments:

First of all the "news" is hardly a news as it has been known for well-over a year that the films will be celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival with new restored prints.

Second, there have been no news regarding DVD releases although one would want to hope that a company would step up and use the new prints (the reason I mention this is because a number of films were remastered so that they can be shown at Cannes yet only a few have been transfered to DVD. Most recent example : La Salamandre, a film that finally came out on DVD after the restored print was around for quite some time.

Third, these new prints are more likely to appear on DVD in the future in Europe first and at this point it is highly unlikely that they will borrowed by R1 companies (unless something changes in the next couple of months which I believe is highly unlikely) as at the moment there are again issues with the rights. In fact, if someone can elaborate...I believe that there are very specific issues with the "for-home-use" rights.

Ciao,
Pro-B

No, these are DEFINITELY coming to DVD. But I don't think I'm allowed to say more than that ... there will be some fuuuuun extras, too.
