Hey northshore,

Do you have any experience with dvdfromkorea.com? Never heard of them.

Available for preorder at dvdasian.com

And yes, it is much more affordable than the japanese version.

However since azumi 2 is filming (or finished filming) i am debating whether to wait for the boxset. ..

ok
prefer www.koreandvds.com : its $19 there on preorder. they do have a habit of subtley shifting their prices slightly higher if something becomes popular...

Thanks to Korean dvd's I no longer have to pop out 55 bones to see the latest Japanese flicks...I feel it's worth the wait.

I just hope this isn't edited at all.

Looks like the Korean release is now going to be the shorter international cut. When it was up for pre-order some of the sites were listing a 142 minute runtime but they've changed the specs now that it is available and are indicating a 128 minute runtime.

Anyone here seen both cuts? Which is considered better? What was cut for the international release?

Don't forget the non-box Japanese disc. It's a lot less than $70 (but still expensive).

True....but I hear that the box set looks pretty impressive.

I could also wait for the inevitable, JPN Ulitmate Box Set with both Azumi 1 and 2.

Decisions....Decisions

^ okay, it's been released for almost a week. Anyone have it yet? I'm curious about a couple things.

One is the running time. Azumi R3 is listed as 128 minutes, while the R2 is at 142. This is listed on HKFlix, so I don't know if it's accurate. Yesasia doesn't list the running time for the actual feature on the R3.

The second question I have is the extras. Here's what I found from DVDCompare for the R2 version:

DISC 2
Battle On The Wild Side documentary
Making Of Azumi: Fighting On The Edge documentary
Music Video
Art Gallery
2 Children Show Specials <-- sounds cool!
TV Spots
Teaser Trailers
Theatrical Trailers

Anyone know if these are the same on the R3? I'm almost just tempted to pay the extra $30 and get the R2 if I get the complete version of the film with all these extras.

EDIT: I just realized those extras were for the LE R2 release. Hopefully they made it to the R3.

this has been cover SO many times in threads on various boards... i am surprised i can be bothered to type this : 128 mins = international cut. 142 min (or so) = directors cut. the D/C was on the japanese dvd but wasnt subbed in english. that cut hasnt been released elsewhere yet i think...

Thanks "Cool New Member" but I already knew it was the international cut. I just want to know what I would be missing. Such as, is the international cut different than what was shown in the theaters?

And another "thanks" for telling me the extras aren't subbed, but I already knew that from reading this or other boards. I just wanted someone to speak to the extras on the R3, which I assume you can't logboy because you don't own it.

So if anyone has it, I'd like to hear from them.

its true : the korean is 128 mins. no subs on extras apparently... i do have it but dont watch extras... anyhow : it has DTS and the UK disc doesnt. as many have said on many boards : the films too long at 128 mins let alone the directors cut....

I agree logboy, I just endured watching the 143 min Director's cut of the film, and the film ultimately felt like much ado about nothing. Sadly besides the some of the action sequences, the film had very little to offer. The acting seemed as if they were taken out from "Acting 101: Acting for Dummies". The sound effects were cheesy. Even the action seemed to get to repetitive and silly. The defining moment though,
Spoiler:
was the climatic decapitation, which made me laugh out loud, by far the best decapitation I have seen this year!
. Needless to say, I wasn't all impressed with this film, even the indication that a sequel is around the corner, made me roll my eyes into head: "please no! only if you get a better script and a competent film editor!"

While the film was too long and the beginning (until they left the mountain) had me going "well this is going to suck", there was enough action (despite the repetitiveness) and plot twists afterwards to keep me interested and entertained. But yeah, cutting 30 min. from this film would improve it quite a bit. Well, not the acting part.

Giles, your spoiler made me laugh but some terrorists might disagree. (ok, bad humor...)
