Name of the Rose & The Prisoner

I found this listing last night on koreandvds.com, for this "limited edition".

I couldn't find any listings for it on any other sites (HMV, yesasia). Does anyone have any info on what the packaging is like?

Also, I'm looking and have found 3 different sets for The Prisoner (R1, R2 and Japanese). Any feedback on which is the best for purchasing?

Thanks,

-JR

If you purchase that edition you must take extreme care to only handle it with gloves on.

Jeez, I have it on my wishlist and it looks like it's already out of print. Guess that all of the LE's have been pre-ordered already off of koreandvds.com.

I checked amazon, hmv, and yesasia, I don't see it listed on any of their sites. If you can find it, let me know...guess I should have pre-ordered it instead of having it sit in my wishlist.

Name Of the Rose LE @ Koreandvds.
I imagine it was unavailable while they increased the price from $17 (which I paid), to the current pre-order price of $19.

The specifications will be the same worldwide. However, the packaging will differ. So, if one is a package freak then get the leather like case from Korea. The rest of us will be fine with the Region 1 release, which can be pre-ordered for as little as $ 6.95 shipping included. I ordered mine from Canada.

I have the REgion 2 set of the Prisoner, it's a much nicer box and more economical than the Region 1 set. But the content it identicle. I'd buy the Region 2. A show originally shot in PAL should stay in PAL.

I had hear that was no longer an issue...that it has become more relaxed. I could be wrong.

I saw the movie a long time ago, so I don't really remember the details. If it's full frontal, it'll probably be blurred. Other than that it shouldn't be a problem.

The version from France has an interview with McGoohan that isn't in any of the other releases. However I have seen the UK pressing go for as cheap as 20 pounds.

I received mine today from DVDasian. It is very nice! The "book" is textured and padded to give it a nice hardcover feel.

If you give me a time, I can check for any potential censored moments.

I haven't received mine yet but this should answer your questions. I'm quoting hardtack from the Australian DVDPlaza forum....

Ok, I decided to take the chance and order Name of the Rose Collectors Edition from DVDHeaven (Korean store) - they sent it last Thursday and it arrived yesterday, which is not too shabby at all.

Anyway, to answer a couple of questions:

The scene that was the subject of concerns being expressed over Korean censorship is completely intact and uncut - not a single mosaic or any blurring to report.

The packaging is not leather, but is a kind of padded cardboard with a leather thong wrapped around it. It is in the form of a book (done in a similar fashion to the BBC's Lost World DVD, if anyone remembers that). There is no insert sheet, so it is basically just the same as the R1 but in a fancy box. The only real benefit for our household is that it has Japanese subtitles.
I checked the Korean release last night and yes, the German documentary does have English subtitles. And for anyone who might be interested, the Commentary track has a choice of Chinese or Korean subtitles.

well, i received the dvd today and it is a nice package... but that's it. i should have done more research b/c i just assumed that it would be at least a 2 dvd set w/ tons of extras like many other korean limited editions. but, it looks like it is the same as the US release (w/ more subtitles - i think 11?)

it would have been a tougher call for me if i had known that the dvd was basically the same... no insert, just a dvd in a nice book-like box.

and yes, i used gloves
