Kinski's Paganini German 2 disc set

I saw this 2 DVD set of Klaus Kinski's Paganini for sale for 29.99. Anyone know if it's worth it? http://www.dvd-idealo.de/14267R10P32...ni-2-DVDs.html

I'm a huge fan of Kinski's work with Herzog and in My Best Fiend Herzog talks about what a disaster Paganini was and how it drained the life out of Kinski and made him even more of a nightmare to work with than usual (on Cobra Verde, which I think is a masterpiece)...

Anyone know anything about this release? It's very intriguing.

(PS, can you tell I just got a region-free hack for my DVD player? )

Well, no one has seen this I guess. Here are some more details:

Disc 1:
Original Theatrical Version (82 Min.)
'Memories on KINSKI PAGANINI' (42 min.): In German
Only
Photo Gallery
Original Trailer

Disc 2:
Kinski's Director's Cut (95 mins)
"Kinski Directs Paganini" Making of Documentary (52
Min): In Italian with German Subtitles
Deleted Scenes (50 Mins)
Cannes Premier Documentary (5 mins): In French with
German Subtitles

Shame that the docos aren't in English but it's a German disc, so I guess it's understandable. The feature has an English audio track, however, and these guys often dubbed their movies for every language anyway, thanks to the international casts. I'm not sure if both cuts have an English track, however.

My curiosity is killing me...

Well, no one has anything to say on this disc but I did go out and buy it today. $29.99. Anyway, I'll fo a review of it here when I get a chance to watch it. Right now I'm loaded up on offical DVDTalk reviews. I wonder if the site wants import reviews... I think I'll ask the big cheese...

Wasn't there an British version of this released a year or so ago? Or at least something that was all in English?

The German DVD does have an English audio track. I'm not aware of a British DVD. I did search the web for info on this release and didn't see anything about it, but that's not to say that I didn't just miss it.

ETA: Amazon.co.uk lists it but doesn't have it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...574816-7423042 They have it as R0! However there is no real info on the release.

ETA2: It looks like that may actually be the same disc I have, except that I thought it was R2. It's SPV Recordings, which is a German label. Their site has no info. Whatev.

I looked at a few minutes of this just to check the disc. Keeeraazyyyy...

Gil,
Please let us know how it looks. I'm a huge Kinski fan too and this film is a must see for fans. I've only seen the film on a very bad quality bootleg VHS that I've had for years, and am dying to replace it. This set looks great, except for the lack of subs of course.

PS. You should ask Geoff about import reviews. I think it would be a great idea. If they need more "region free reviewers", I could try out for the gig and send in a sample review or two.

Well, from what I've heard it's a decent release, the only flaw being the not-pristine transfer.

Besides this, you should be happy with it - let us know!

Oh and, the "director's cut" is in English only, as far as I know.
