Ed Wood: R2... Should I get it?

I know this is an old release and has been discussed to death, but should I get it? I don't care if the OOP R1 version has an extra deleted scene or something. How is it?

Then why start a new thread?

I did a search and didn't find anything that really answered my question. I didn't think that this was such a high traffic forum that it would cause a problem. I've seen this disc for $16 so it's not like it's a huge risk, but I thought I'd see what others had to say about it.

I live on McDonald Avenue. I know from high traffic.

Yeah, I'm just another newb. Point me towards a FAQ and tell me to shut up

Now come on, should I get the stinking DVD or not? I've spent enough timing telling y'all whether DVDs are worth watching or not. The least you can do is give me a simple yea or nay!

yea - and why have you waited so long?

(Best price seems to be Amazon uk - and they subtract the VAT for export to U.S.)

Only recently got a player that can play all regions (if the hack worked; haven't tried it yet)

As for that version, I believe that's the one I saw in the store. I've also seen a R2/4 version online with the same image on the cover but a pink border. http://www10.cd-wow.com/detail_resul...duct_code=2584

Is it the same thing?

I have the Ed Wood R2 version with which I am very happy as I got it cheap from Amazon.co.uk recently. I recommend if you want the film, but do not want to pay a ridiculous price.

You could also get the NTSC version from Korea/Brazil for pretty much the same amount. Not sure if the PAL/NTSC difference bothers you but there you have it.

I don't know if it bothers me either. I'm not sure I've seen it. Ed Wood might be a good test case, since it's relatively inexpensive.

BTW, does that other set have the same transfer/features? Where is it available?

The other set has the exact same transfer/extras. I've never seen the movie but I'm definitely interested considering all this controversy.

It's a wonderful movie. You should definitely see it. Like I said, Kim's has it.

Si, no PAL for me though. I was thinking I might do a blind buy of it once I have the money but too many other discs I want right now.

ummm...i'd do a search on the various Pal vs. NTSC debates that have raged in this forum before. I'm not touching this one.

Good point. I've actually read those. I don't know why I tried to bring that up.

I have yet to try a PAL disc with my DVD player converting the PAL to NTSC. So would it be better to get the NTSC R3 version, even though the R2 got a better review?

Thanks,

Jeff

PAL. Is it that noticable?

Only if you have a bad setup home cinema system or a really good system but are too stupid to set it up correctly. Well over 300,000,000 people use PAL every day and I don't recall a complaint. I know there are 1-2 people on this forum complain but they only own 1-2 PAL DVDs, so how can we believe them?

No, we can't. They are technically retarded I believe.

I realize several people firmly believe that PAL speedup is a noticible and distracting occurence - well, I have dozens of PAL discs and have yet to be aware of any problem. Furthermore, whenever I have friends over and play a PAL DVD, not once has anyone even hinted that they are aware of "speedup" or anything unusual.

Daniel Windsor, if I see any more deliberately inflammatory posts like that from you it'll result in a posting holiday for sure.

For anyone tempted to emulate or respond in kind: please don't.

I don't think there is any need to rehearse the PAL/NTSC argument here: as already mentioned, its been done to death on this forum and anyone interested can dig up the old threads.

As things stand I'm leaving the thread open so that Gil Jawetz and other people interested in his topic aren't caught in the cross-fire.

Are you in the UK? Do you see a problem with PAL? I was just making a point. People now genuinely believe there's something wrong with a format that at least 300.000.000 people use every day quite happily because of possibly one person here. I have not named them or attacked them personally.

And to the thread starter, yes you should get the Region 2 (UK or Dutch is the cheapest) disc as it's excellent.

If you want to use an internationl retailer to pay in $$$s try www.cdwow.net who have it for $12.95 shipped.

You can read a review of the disc here

Someone watching PAL content on an all-PAL system would not see any speed up. It's only when you convert PAL to NTSC that there might be some discrepency.
