Blueberry DVD announcement

http://img5.allocine.fr/acmedia/medi...5/18365368.jpg

In the last bit of news for tonight Jan Kounen's (DOBERMANN) latest film BLUEBERRY will be released on DVD- October 13 in France. Starring Vincent Cassel (La Haine, Brotherhood of the Wolf) and Michael Madsen this film has not been screened in the US as of yet though we already have a distirb.

The film is English friendly so this should be good news (unless we are served with forced French subs)

I'm guessing there isn't going to be a theatrical release for America?

harosa 06-02-04 06:22 AM

I think there is supposed to be one, at least with all the american actors in it. Ill definatley be importing this as it will probably hit video overseas before any theatrical US release.

I am actually looking forward to see this film...I loved the comic books.

There is going to be one, but no confirmed dates yet. I did say above that we already have a distrib (a very small independent company).

This will be my first french dvd, as long as there are no damned forced french subtitles.

Man I can't wait for this. Cassel is one of my favorite actores. But from what I've heard & read the movie actually isn't too good.

slop101 06-02-04 05:46 PM

I like Cassel - but I really did not like Dobberman at all (same director).

cultshock 06-02-04 06:42 PM

Nice news!

I'm a fan of the Moebius comic, so I've been really wanting to see this film.

harosa 06-08-04 10:33 PM

If youre a fan of the books dont see this film, you know youre in trouble when the opening title says "Loosely based" on the Moebius strip. This movie has to go down in history as one of the most wasted oppurtunities in film. You have a great action director (i loved Dobermann), one of the coolest actors around(Cassel looking like a young Eastwood in shots), some truly awe inspiring vistas and a great supporting cast ( Djimon Honsou, Michael Madsen, Geoffrey and Juliette Lewis, Ernest Borgnine, Tcheky Karyo, Colm Meaney, Temuera Morrison and Eddie Izzard) and yet they all get lost in what amounts to a 2 hour peyote trip. No doubt the FX in the end are magnificent but is that what we went in to see? A damn, crying shame.

I wanted to ask if any of you had seen this movie, and if some one knows about the other languages besides English in the film, which are they? are there any? if there are, are they really crucial to the understanding of the plot? . Thanks.

harosa 06-10-04 06:26 AM

The movie is basically all English with some Native American thrown in, the print i saw had no subs on it, which at first I thought was intentional then i realized that there should be some subs in here for plot's sake, although i did read a review where it said some of the Indian dialect is left unsubbed intentionally. I pretty much got the gist of what was going on but you should see it with subs to get the whole plot's finer points. Movie still sucks ass though, although I still cant believe it.

It's available on DVD in Korea:

I will most certainly pick it up and then buy the French set (I am extremely curious as to what master the Koreans are going to use for it). If it is not a PAL to NTSC port I might even keep the set.

Thank's for the info Merdalf

Has anyone picked up the Korean release yet? Reviews?

thanks

From someone who is a big Moebius fan (he wrote and drew the original comics) and thus has an interest in seeing this film!

Does a legit Korean release even exist? It was apparently released a week ago, and only DVDHeaven shows any info about it.

harosa 06-16-04 11:23 PM

Litza, if you're a fan of Moebius' work on Blueberry then prepared to be extremely disappointed as this movie has no relationship at all with that work.

Well, I'm a fan of Moebius in general, and from what its sounds like, its a very Moebius-like film. Just not like his realistic work that he signs "Jean Giraud". One of the reviews I read compared it to El Topo, which is interesting because El Topo's director, Alejandro Jodorowsky, has worked with Moebius on various graphic novels.

When I saw Jan Kounen speak before at a screening of Doberman, he went to great lengths to express his fondness for Moebius' work.

With all this going for it, I think the worse this movie can be would be a fascinating failure.

Does anyone know what Moebius' opinion of the film was/is?
