Pioneer DV-563A region-free question ...

Hello ... I recently purchased a Pioneer DV-563A which was modified to be region-free. (It also converts PAL to NTSC, as you probably know.) On every PAL title I own, there seems to be a strange jerkiness that is really noticeable with any kind of motion. It seems to occur approximately four times a second, which makes any of these discs very difficult to watch. I've owned three other region-free players in the past (Philips DVP320F, GE 1101P, and even a Raite 715AV) and none of them had this problem ... not even the hideous Raite! If anyone has any ideas or helpful comments, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I have the R1 version of the 563A, and while it does convert PAL to NTSC on region-free titles, I see the same jerkiness you describe. I believe it just doesn't have a good PAL-->NTSC converter, so no matter if you make it region-free or not, the PAL conversion is going to be irritating. I was under the assumption that places that sold the region-free version did something to correct this, but apparently not. It's certainly not equal to my modded JVC XV-S500BK.

Thanks for the info, Ted. I'm beginning to wonder if I should send it back or if there's some kind of tweak I can perform myself. Maybe I should have picked up a JVC instead. I had been planning to get one for quite awhile, but when the 563A came out with SACD and DVD-A capabilities, I changed my mind. Maybe that was a mistake.

i was looking at this player as well, given the SACD and DVD-A capabilities. But i finally decided (i used to have the Malata 996) on the Toshiba 4900 , due to the following reasons
1) cheap only 79.95 on amazon, shipped
2) can be made regionfree with the remote control
3) my biggest reason, this player plays absolutely everthing. Does DVD+RW as well as DVD-RAM etc.
4) the Pal/NTSC conversion is excellent.
5) does DVD-A, the only thing this player doesnt do is SACD.
