Abbas Kiarostami's 10 (FRENCH EDITION)

Great news!! Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami's film 10 (TEN) just got the french treatment from distributer MK2.

The film will have english subs but the most interesting thing is that the 2 dvd-set also includes the just premiered doc 10 ON 10 which was in UN CERTAIN REGARD section at this year's Cannes. Here's hoping that the 2nd dvd will also have english subs.

here are some specs:

FORMAT VIDEO: 1.66 16/9 Anamorphique (compatible 4/3)

ZONE/STANDARD: 2 PAL

AUDIO: DOLBY DIGITAL FARSI 2.0

SOUS-TITRES: FRANCAIS, ANGLAIS

Actually the doc was mentioned in the initial announcement, it was just called "La leçon de cinéma" (in keeping with mk2's previous SE of The Wind Will Carry Us, which had a bonus documentary of the same name) rather than "10 on Ten."

After hearing the bad news about Jacques Rivette's film i am also afraid that 10 ON 10 DOES NOT have english subs, even though the film itself DOES. Can anyone confirm this?

Just to add to the confusion, the version of 10 ON TEN that was shown at Cannes had, according to Variety's review, an English voice-over (!) instead of subtitles. I think that sounds like a really bad idea, to be honest, but I suppose Kiarostami must have wanted it or at least approved it -- and if the DVD is also like that, then there would of course not be any need for English subs.

Is this a remake of the Bo Derrick/Duddley Moore movie?

FWIW, MK2's release of Kiarostami's "The Wind Will Carry Us" had English subs on everything, including all the extras on the 2nd disc - so it stands to reason that they'd do the same thing here.

Did anyone purchased this dvd and can tell us if the bonus movie (10 on 10) comes with English subtitles or English dubbing.

Finally, some confirmation on the English subtitles/dubbing situation, courtesy a poster at the Criterion forum:

10 on 10 has a voice over track (choice of French or English).
The catalogue included in the dvd list ABC Africa as planned for October 2004.
Very odd to offer dubbing instead of subtitles but as someone else said I'm sure Kiarostami has his reasons. Very much looking forward to seeing what mk2 comes up with for the ABC Africa disc....
