Canadians - Region Free Help

Hello,

I'm just wondering if there are any Canadians on this board who may know something about locally available region free players. I've read some players can be hacked using a special code from the remote control (ei Toshiba sd-3900). The problem is alot of these models aren't available locally.

Are there are canadians how picked up a decent region-free player from a local shop ?? Friends of mine have tried one from Radioshack by a company called cyberhome. The dvd player I want to pick up is going to be my primary player so I'm skepitcal on non-mainstream brands.

Any info would be awesome.

Thanks,
Jas

I think you can pick up the Malata players in your local Chinatown. If you're in the GTA, they sell them at Pacific Mall.

Check out Yamaha S5650(B) discussed in this thread:

Also here:

I got mine at Futureshop a while ago and they had it listed as Yamaha S5650B. B just stands for Black. Anyway, just another one that you might want to look into.

I recommend grabbing a Malata from your local chinatown. Where are you located? i picked up a 580 for c$140. It works great. Plays everything I've thrown at it: pal, ntsc, all regions, dvdrs, audio cds, mp3s, etc. Plus, it does this all out of the box. No hack needed.
