Brazilian DVD's - Region 4 must haves?

I was considering purchasing "City of God" from a Brazilian e-tailer. I understand it has 2 dvd's and the reviews on it have been stellar. Does anyone know if this also has English subtitles?

I also just saw another Brazilian movie called "The Photocopier" (the American title is called "The Man who Copied") which I absolutely loved just as much.

Are there any other must have Region 4 (Brazil) dvd's that I should purchase?

City of God does indeed have subs but the film is not anamorphic so that's a thumbs down in my book.

Re: Brazilian DVD's - Region 4 must haves?

city of god - disc one has english subtitles, however, the second disc doesn't. i would recommend checking the region 2 uk disc to see if it has subtitles for the director's commentary...

do you mean region 4 or brazilian movies?

"carandiru" is a good movie about a prison. the dvd has english subtitles as well

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

Badlieut, here it shows "City of God" Region 4 from Brazil is anamorphic.

MuteClown - yes, I mean Brazilian movies that may or may not be released on Region 1. "Carandiru" would be a recommended Brazilian movie, if it is clearly superior over the Region 1 release, which is unknown at this point.

Coffin Joe Boxset - English subs for the 6 films in the set but unfortunately the multitude of extras aren't subbed.

I use www.dvdworld.com.br and I believe a couple of people in the forum do as well. look in the sticky at the top of the page for e-tailers in brazil.

http://dvdworld.com.br/dvdworld.hts?+CT00783+acha

it's spelled carandirú in portuguese.

i asked about shipping and they gave me 3 options (priority, ems and fedex). it looks like it's the same if you buy 1 or 5. they don't list it there, but they won't charge you until you aprove the costs

Is there an option anywhere on their site to have the text displayed in English, or is the whole site Portugese only? Thanks!
