actually, it would be Kenski Parkovitch. the ova/ovitch endings refer to "daughter of/son of"...i.e. Ivan Denisovitch is Ivan, son of Denis.

boy, do i know how to kill a joke or what!

...a movie was made of that novel - remember seeing it on TV "ages ago" - also remember it as being rather better than this capsule review would lead one to expect (of course, I was much younger - and more impressionable - then...)

. . . :o . . .

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

You need English subtitles because you are deaf? There's the option for English audio. Try pressing the audio button on your remote or going to the menu.

DeltaSigChi4 04-25-04 11:28 AM

Anyone know if a Region 1 release is in the works - or where one can get a Non-Region 1 at a reasonable price?

No, because no distributer in the U.S has picked up the film for theatrical release, hence no dvd. Judging by the reaction around the world i don't think this film will ever be distributed in the U.S., although a few years from now someone might buy the rights and release it on video/dvd.

Ken Park was picked up for Distribution by Vitagragh (the distribution arm of AMERICAN CINEMATEQUE) some time ago. It was supposed to be released in September 2003, but it is now slated to Premiere in New York September 2004. (Note that it played Walter Reade in New York already in March 2003.) The DVD should follow by the end of the year.

The good news is that Vitagraph has a good history of top notch DVD releases, and now works with HvE.

...ah, yes... Vitagraph... a name to remember... ! ! !...

It most certainly will, Vitagraph is run by the Los Angeles equivalent of a cross between the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Film Forum. They were responsible for bringing Miike to the US with their release of Audition.
