Good Region Free Players That Support DVD-A?
I saw that the Pioneer DV-45A plays DVD-A, and was wondering if there were any other good alternatives (preferably cheaper, but that's a secondary issue to quality) to this player.

Toshiba SD-4900 supports DVD-A, though you might have to look at several places for it.

[;)] Oblique answers are sometimes worse than no answers!
I think the "wrong" related to "you need a different receiver to play the discs as well, if I recall. ". If you are after definitions sometimes it is quicker just to type the word and "definition" into google and see what comes up.... .... however, having just done that, I would strongly advise that you leave the hyphen in i.e DVD-A. 'nuff said! http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/...510035,00.html |

Might be more expensive, but it's well worth it. The dolby and dts CDs are well worth a listen to. If you like classical music, Naxos' The Planets DVD-A is great. I already had the performance on a regular CD and wanted to try out DVD-A. The sound is a lot more open and encompassing (as one would expect from a surround sound setup) and detailed. I was very happy with it, and my JVC-602. No extra equipment was necessary - just had to make sure I passed the signal through my decoder unchanged to the receiver.

The Toshiba 4900 is advertised right on the box to play DVD-A, and it's region free as well. As one of the above posters, mentioned, I bought one from Buy.com for $69 shipped last week. Thumbs up :)

The Toshiba SD-4900 is now 89.99 at buy.com. Lucky you.
It is 69.99 at electronics-expo.com. By the way, why is this model so expensive on sites that specialize in code free DVD players? All one needs to do is to buy it cheap on another site and then download the firmware to make it region free. Sounds to me like a lot of e-tailers are trying to rip us off. |
