new smash dvd'Old Boy' soon

Just read this and wanted to let you know guys, if you're into it!

Korean smash hit 'Old Boy' is to be remade through 'Universal Pictures' after formally contracted in 'American Film Market', starring-to-be 'Johnny Depp' and 'Brad Pitt'.

According to the production, the US. film officials were fascinated by the film and praised highly the director 'a genius', though uncomfortably involved in incest, the movie's high condensed quality eventually made them into signing the papier.

'Old Boy' is based on Japanese comic, written by Suchiya Garon and drawn by Minegishi Nobuaki, a Mystery thriller which deals with the plot of a man being locked up for 15 years and a revenge play of another man who locked him up.

The DVD will be released twice, one in April, a version of standard edition which includes The movie and general supplement and in Fall, a version of Ultimate Edition, tightly armored with various supplement and extended version.

No page yet on any Korea websites. That's strange because for such a big movie the DVD is usually announced at least a month before the release.

well, as my knowledge goes, the remake contract is done last week
and the casting is not definitely decided yet.
I'll leave an update in the forum when I get the news here.

Another thing about Korean releases is they jump around more than a superball, so even it if it says mid-April the release date might change the day before, like I've seen happen a few times on some DVDs I really wanted. (I somewhat dislike Korean companies for that.)

IF it does star Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt it should be awesome.

I really want to see this movie. As for the American remake, just by the synopsis alone, I'd love to see Depp in the title role.

AsianDB.com has Old Boy listed with a pre-order date of April 20th.

Specs:
subtitle: English, Korean
audio: Dolby Digital, 5.1ch, Surround, DTS
release date: Apr 20, 2004
company: Starmax
country: South Korea
aspect ratio: 2.35:1
case: Keep Case
Region Code: 3, NTSC
Single Side Dual Layer
Special Features:
- Making Film

Kind of pricey @ $35 USD, though. It'll certainly be cheaper elsewhere.

think this is gone too much, the price.
Hope I could find and see a lot more of the sites better deal than this one.
This is definitely too costly and much expensive.
and the release date was also not decided anywhere.

Um, I wouldn't trust that link. The Wonderful Days box set comes out next week, and so doesn't ship in a day, like the site says. (Funny it doesn't say it's a pre-order but the release date is for March 27th...)

Just a side note, AsianDB's markup is a bit much. The Wonderful Days set would be less than US$30 but they're selling it for 50. I got the Bruce Lee set for about 40, they've got it for 75. The most ridiculous one: The Chihwaseon LE I bought for around 20 bucks, but they're selling it for 85. It is out-of-print, that's true but it's still a bit much.

In any case, I've heard a bunch of times Old Boy would be a bare bones release soon and a mega set later. AsianDB says it's a 2-disk set, but the specs really don't call for a 2-disk set, unless the featurette is about an hour long, which I doubt. Korean websites still say zilch about pre-orders, and I'd trust those before I'd trust other ones.

This update on 'Old Boy' is from a manager at ***.
As far as I know, the following is from the press interview with the director.
The standard first version will be released through 'Starmax' at around end of April or in early May and supports DTS but director's audio commentary not included, With general supplement of Making Film, Music video, etc. at the price of not exceeding $25.

In the ultimate limited edition of Dolby Digital 5.1 due in October this year, includes the feature and supplements of 5 different audio commentaries, Newly-produced, 'Documentary Old Boy(undecided)', Music video by the director and Easter egg along with short film by the director, Park Chan Wook. The ULE. supplies OST., high-quality posters' booklet?and and an outer case to keep the disc as well.
