Just did a search on this and nothing came up.

In any case, Home theater forum is finally giving us a release date for the R2 version of the special Edition: August 2nd!!! That means the R1 version is usually around that time (possibly a few months ahead).

Any ideas what the extras are? The current edition has 5.1 remixed sound and an anamorphic transfer but I know there were some who complained about the PQ.

Pic quality could have been better on the original release.....unless they are really doing something above and beyond with this newer edition....I'll pass. :)

We still don't have one. I think you should've mentioned the news is specifically about R2 in your thread title.

The purpose of this thread is to talk about the upcoming release for which a release date will (I assume) be announced soon considering R2 got one. Very similar to the Heat threads started already.

We have reviewed the September 13th release of the new Untouchables Special Edition here.

The R1 is in my pile of disks to review with a release date of 10/05/04. Now whether or not this is a confirmed date I don't know.

are the R1 and R2 discs similar in terms of A/V quality and extras?

if so I might have to get R2 just because of it being out a month early.

I suggest you pop that DVD into your player as soon as possible so we can get a review very fast.:) Can´t wait to hear what the picture & sound quality is like.

I am a uk member, looking at this in a shop today, and picked up the case to have a look at the extras....and the most subtle of chage on the cover caught my eye.

The have got kev costner holding his badge now, instead of a gun. They obviously didnt have any of the older versions of the dvd to compare it too, but i always remember him pointing a gun straight ahead in the pose on the cover.

Am i wrong??

It reminded me about all the fuss with ET and changing guns too walkie talkies, so i thaught, i will wait n see what happens...if the reprint it with the gun again. If not i will have waited a while and should pick it up cheaper.
