Yamakasi- New Anamorphic version (region ALL)
 

It appears that Korea has produced a new-anamorphic version of Yamakasi (aka: Les Samourais Des Temps Mordernes). Unlike the previous verison that offered English subs (HK) this one does not have a DTS track but ...I am glad to drop the DTS track for a good anamorphic treatement (provided this is not a PAL to NTSC port).

Yeah, I saw this over at Koreandvds.com . I heard the film isn't that great to begin with.

you are definitely right Bill, not a great film alas....entertaining!

You also get some nice extras also!

Commentary track (although I suspect it's in French with optional Korean subs only), making of, interviews, performance in France, and the ususal trailers/bios...

Have you actually seen this disc? I would like to know if this is PAL to NTSC port....is it any similar to the SE Dobermann disc that was released?

:D I have both the Dobermann SE and the Yamazaki disk. I haven't seen either of them. Even if I did, I don't know if I'd be able to tell if it's a PAL to NTSC port. I can't really tell the difference. I mean, I saw the R3 Hero and thought it looked find, but everybody's ragging on it for being so crappy. I'll try looking at it tomorrow and tell you what I saw.

Okay so I looked at some parts and I saw a lot of fuzziness. When it was playing the picture was okay, but when I paused it or saw it through slo-mo it was really obvious.

However, I think it's just 'cause some of the movements are fast. I took a look at the Dobermann DVD here and there and I can now see a bad PAL to NTSC port. Whoa, that's bad. I also took a look at the R3 Hong Kong DVD and that picture looks pretty good, I think. The Yamakasi picture looks more like that one than the Dobermann picture. I also looked at the pod race from Phantom Menace to see what fast movements look like on a movie I'm absolutely certain is NTSC.

After seeing that I'm almost positive the Yamakasi DVD isn't a PAL to NTSC port. I don't have an HDTV so that explanation is the best I can do. Hope it helps.

I was absolutely certain about Dobermann...I confirmed that awhile ago. As to the new Yamakasi....I am going home to Chicago next week and will see for myself (on a 16/9 TV).

Since we are discussing PAL/NTSC ports of French films....I have my doubts about the TAXI 3 disc as well......

So I checked out a scene. It was a fast-moving scene so when I paused there was a lot of blurriness but nothing like the ghosting from Dobermann. I'd guess it's the same as Yamakasi. For some strange reason French flicks are fairly big in Korea, so they're usually very nice for them. I guess Dobermann was kind of an exception.

Any more suspicions with other movies I might have? :)

well, I have just learned not to buy European films (in general) from Korea since the fiasco with the Swedish Under the Sun (which is now available in R1 land). For French films (since you mentioned them) I look in...:)France.
