Does anyone have an actual explanation why all of these other countries get the most beyond kick-ass looking box set, & America the most compulsive buying, consumer packed society in the free world get's boring box sets one after the other.

Exactly what I was wondering. I know that foriegn countries often gets better covers because the studios think we need floating heads on all our covers to associate a particular movie with an actor, as if consumers shop for actors and not movies themselves.

I think a better contrast would be for people to post the best box sets released in America for comparison. So far, I've seen nothing that compares to several of these, however.

I think one reason they may not release them here like this is because I don't know if the expensive sets really do all that well. The LOTR boxes are probably the best selling deluxe box sets, and they didn't do phenomonally well. I know the Spider Man box set got marked down considerably a couple months after its release because the stores couldn't move them. I know for the most part, I am not willing to pay fifty dollars over the price of the movie alone for just a couple of trinkets, which is what we usually get in our deluxe box sets.

Anyone know how the transfers on that Bruce Lee set compare to say the HKL versions (or even if they are the same transfers which would be great) ?

Well, I dont want to give an entirely hypocritical answer here but...all you have to do is look at the responses in the Talk-section where people dismiss everything that comes in other regions by saying that "I will buy it (R1 presentation) even if it comes in a brown paper bag"....or comments of that nature.

There was a specific thread awhile ago where this very issue was somewhat discussed. I have always admired the way Scandinavians and the French in particular treat their DVD market/fans. Up until it was sarcastically pointed out to me that they are too pretentious....I suppose then so are the Japanese and the Koreans and so on.....BUT....RIGHT THERE's your answer!!

**
Almost forgot...here's a nice stylish presentation-very simple, yet beautiful!

AND,

another example where a total lack of the "big head" syndrom could deliver a beautiful cover work:

AND,

the latest....

Pro-B

i like the french 'winged migration' cover and packaging a lot. makes me actually want to see it now. i remember the theatrical poster was pretty uninteresting compared to this.

and of course, 'mononoke' packaging is stunning. i think i may just purchase that one.

ntuc, that's not quite true.

Big Boss has interview, but noneof the other mvoies, and Game of Death has about 11 minutes of footage that was shot but not used in the movie. Man, if Bruce Lee hadn't died, Game of Death would've seriously kicked ass.

Game of Death is only in English. Also, the movies were re-dubbed in Cantonese, so it's not Bruce Lee's voice (or at least that's what I noticed from the Way of the Dragon bits I saw).
None of the movies have production notes, but the set comes wth a nice book, albeit in Korean.

The set is even cheaper if you order it from Korean websites.

I ordered the HKL set about 3 weeks ago and still haven't received it. I can compare the sound/picture for both sets once I get it.

Depends. I'd say yes 'cause it looks really good, has a cleaned-up print (or, at least, that's how it looked like from the bits I saw) and DTS tracks. You also ge the doc from the Fox release in the US.

If you don't want to buy the HKL version, then you have to get this. There aren't any real extras besides the extra footage on the Game of Death DVD and the interviews on the Big Boss DVD. I'll check out the interviews soon and tell you if they're good.

If you have the Fox set, you have to upgrade. All the aspect ratios are corrected and you don't have that bad English dub.

Is it worth buying? Do you like Bruce Lee?

So, the only things missing from the HKL Bruce Lee Collection (besides that cool looking case) are the Korean sets DTS tracks? How good is their use of DTS, considering the movies' original audio mixes were in mono - is there a marked improvement?

Do the 8 Femmes or the Indochine sets have english subtitles (on the feature and the extras?). I know the French DVDs tend to not, but it is worth asking. Thanks.

So I found the thread that says 8 femmes doesn't have the english subs, but does any region have removable english subs and the extras, hopefully with english subs? What about the Danish disc? Also, my above question about Indochine still applies. Thanks.

Regarding Bruce Lee Korean boxset. You have to also take into consideration that it doesn't have the re-edited Game of Death footage from the Japanese "Bruce Lee in G.o.D." DVD. The HKL version has this on the Platinum G.o.D. set.

neither of the two discs have English subs, pretty sad indeed!
To answer your second question I dont think that there is a single version out there that has the massive extras you are seeing on the Velur 8 femmes edition. The English speaking part of the world went with a bare-bones release (as usual)

I own the old Columbia version of Indochine....absolutely 10/10 film. Spectacular Deneuve!!
