Anyone heard of Casshern??
I saw this trailer on themoviebox.net.
http://www.casshern.com Their website looks like a Gap Ad, but the trailer looks rather sweet. I have not heard anything about it. Very cool and funky sc-fi looking flick. Am I really behind in hearing about this one, or is this something very new? I'm not sure is this is coming soon or has this come out already. I'm very interested, either it'll be a Returner-type rip-off or something very original. Curious if anyone has any info on this. Thanks. |
Curse you! I always try and avoid hearing film buzz because I hate to want what I can't have. That's a great looking trailer.

It's generating a fair amount of buzz on Asian cinema boards.
CASSHERN is a slick update of a 1970's anime better known in the States as CASSHAN - ROBOT HUNTER. The director is Kiriya Kazuaki, who has built himself a reputation as both an excellent photographer and music video director, but is probably more widely known to Japanese culture addicts as the husband of J-pop sensation Hikaru Utada (who is slated to sing the theme song for the new film, naturally). If you've seen Utada's newer videos, such as TRAVELING and SAKURA DROPS, both of which were directed by Kiriya, it will give you a taste of what to expect from CASSHERN (dramatic lighting and make-up; fantastic looking worlds and costumes). Its budget is $47 million, an unprecedented amount for a Japanese film. This one is at the very top of my to-see list, even higher than Park Chan-wook's OLD BOY. |
Wow, thanks wuken. Very cool info.

Saw the the trailer a couple of days ago. Looks fantastic....can't wait to see it.
|
I'm more looking forward to it because it's the first new Hikaru Utada song since "Colors". I would be happy just hearing the song, don't need to see the movie.

Ressurection is fun.
Curious - where did that $47m budget number come from? Every site I've read has it pegged 600m Yen, or about $5.5m USD Some new information popped up recently as well (yeah yeah there was a point to ressurecting this :D) http://movie.goo.ne.jp/contents/news...-33/index.html (Possible pick-up and bastardizing (remake) rights, speaks of Kazuaki Kiriya possibly directing such.) and if that budget is accurate... well, that is just mindboggling considering... http://211.125.72.61/images/qualify/...movie/s025.jpg Was also checking other links from the site... is it really $16.50usd (1,800Y) per adult movie ticket there? Damn |
