Just got my copy of Polish Decalogue DVD Box !!!

Got my copy of the Polish Decalogue DVD Box direct from Poland yesterday.

It is a nice design boxset. Number 1 to 10 is printed on the cover with specific design that is related to the story. The number '5' is designed with a rope hanging above it representing the death penalty of hanging.

The box has 2 digitpack inside: one holding 5 disc and the other 6.

The film itself has English, Polish and French subs. The supplements however are not subtitle. The audio is mono 2.0 or 5.1 digital.

I just saw a little bit of Decalogue 5. Compare with the US Image release, the polish version has a clean and clear pictures. The polish one has a "yellowish" image which I think truly represent the original shooting technique that use a filter. The US release is much "whiter".

The supplements of Decalogue 5 seen the actor Miroslaw Baka, the mysterious Young Man played by Artur Barcis revisit the shooting locations talking about the film and a Piesiewicz interview. It would be much much better if it is Eng sub.

The bonus disc of the boxset is mainly Polish TV specials on Kieslowski and his films. The first part include on location 'making of', Kieslowski appearance on TV Q & A with the audience. The second part mainly are interviews with Kieslowski colleagues like A. Holland, Irene Jacob and others. It is also not Eng sub.

Overall I think the Polish release is better in picture quality than the US (I don't own UK release thus can't compare). The major drawback is the supplements not Eng sub.

Very tempted to get this.....how easy was it to order direct from Poland?

Alternatively i may just wait and see how the transfers shape up in the upcoming 4 disc French boxset released in February.

Well, I will definitely PASS here - for several reasons:

What on earth was Warner thinking, pricing this set at this super-high price - shame on Warner! Especially thinking that many Polands won't be able to buy it EVER! The per capita income is just too low!

I will boycott this shitty action on Warner's part - you just have to take a look at the merlin site to see the disappointment by the audience.

Just my 2 cents,

S
