I went to Bowery St in chinatown shopping for some Asian DVD's. I thought I got some good deals which included Fulltime Killer and Gen-Y cops for $5.95 and Yi Yi for $7.95. However I'm not sure if these are legitimate or bootleg.

I checked online for Fulltime killer and all the sites showed a plastic translucent case. My case was a regular black keepcase.

I want to support the Asian film industry by buying legitimate dvd's. However, it's hard for me to tell which ones are fake. It's super easy for me to tell the bootleg American DVD's they sell in NYC but it's a lot harder for me to distinguish the asian ones.

Can anyone recommend a legit place that sells dvd's in nyc for good price?

I am pretty sure there is another thread that lists a bunch of them. There is always the DVDTalk meet thread in NYC shopping in Chinatown, but I don't even know if that thread still exists. Try a few variations of a search somnething should come up with the info.

You are guaranteed to get only legit releases at Lai Ying Music on Bowery. I've seen a few releases of titles I wasn't familiar with down the street at NY Music & Gifts, but aside from anime they are also legit-only. Rock City Music Corp doesn't have the selection of the other two and doesn't get as much traffic, but I haven't run into any boots there. Heck I even found the translucent Fulltime Killer there this spring when no one else had it!

If you stick with these stores, in order, you will never have to worry about picking up a boot again.

I went to this store on 99 bowery. I'm not sure what they're called because the bag had only chinese. They seemed to sell pretty much the same title as Lai Ying but a little cheaper. Anybody know about them?

I can't vouch for any store I didn't already list. There are plenty of stores in Chinatown but the one's in my earlier post have been verified to be reputable.

I would recommend Lai Ying MUSIC at 89 bowery st, usually they have a good price on most of the HK dvds.. they are probably the only place I would trust around chinatown.. but then again, I only buy the new HK release dvds and some korean movies release by HK distributors
