HK Versions - do you avoid?
 

Does anyone typically avoid HK versions of DVD's? Seems these are pretty easy to get, but are usually edited (e.g. Ichi the Killer)? And what about Japan DVD's? I hate when they pixellate the "naughty" parts! What's the best way to avoid this, or is again on a case-by-case basis?

What movies are you watching that have pixellated [sic] naughty-parts? Anything good that would recommend?

Pixellated naughty parts are often a symptom of STD. See your doctor. :)

Seriously, I think you have to go on a case by case basis, do some research and get the uncut version regardless of where it comes from. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can make a blanket statement that you should avoid HK releases because they are usually edited. Just look at what FOX did to Naked Killer while (I believe) the HK Tai Seng version is uncut.

I think the last one I saw with this was Dead or Alive, but I forget which episode as I watched all 3 in succession. There was a scene that was supposed to be humorous I guess where this women's husband got his HUGE thing cut off and the women was in mourning over IT and not the hubby. Totally pixelicious and you couldn't hardly see anything on the screen because of it. There were some other spots I believe were some women had their nether regions fuzzed out (in a bad way!) as well. This may be because it was a Japanese DVD and I know they have censorship laws there.

In the case of Korean films, it's almost always better to go with the Korean DVD rather than the HK edition in my experience. Because although the HK editions are usually alot cheaper, they typically pale in comparasion to the Korean DVD. Just look at "Attack the Gas Station" for a good example of that.

Usually edited? Well no, that would be less than 5% of titles released in HK. Transfer quality, that's the main reason to avoid.
